Yup, all 4 (I'm including Toyota) are badass pickups and there is absolutely no bad choice. It simply comes down to personal preference. I was in the market for a new 4x4 crew cab truck over the summer and looked at the 16 gmc sierra denali 4x4, f150 platinum 4x4 ecoboost 3.5, and the tundra platinum 4x4 5.7. I did not consider the dodge ram although it is not a bad truck at all. The nicest of all imo is the f150 platinum. Thing has all the latest tech and the ride is decent. It would have been my 1st choice but the price with all options in 4x4 crew cab with 3.5 is over 70k before incentives (no thanks). I went with the Tundra and absolutely love it! I will more than likely sell it very soon bc I actually need a diesel and will probably buy a dodge mega cab 4x4 cummins as they are very reasonably priced bc the new body style (2018) is around the corner.

I know this is the more burly versions but STILL you gotta wonder how tough the Ford could be.

Which is ridiculous, but I guess as people were buying them, then there wasn't much incentive to update, stupid really. I'm interested to see how much better a (finally) new frame performs vs the ancient one.

I saw the new 2nd gen Raptor today and it was a beast of a truck. GM has NOTHING like that. Ford has proven for 8 years that the market is there. When will GM wake up and make something EXCITING in a truck. The Colorado ZR2 is a step in the right direction, but they also need to step up on the fullsize. My 2 cents. Edit: Awesome vid on frame twist. |

A Raptor and a supercharged street truck are two very different things. Off road trucks will of course sell way better since they're upgraded versions of what trucks are supposed to do in the first place. Even people who aren't in the market for one will look at a Raptor or ZR2 and think, "Well sometimes I have to drive into my brother's backyard and there's that little ditch that I will DEFINITELY need this thing to get through...and plus it looks big and awesome and manly."
A performance street truck though? The vast majority of consumers are going to look at it vs the Camaro or Corvette sitting next to it in the showroom and wonder why they should pay more for a bigger, heavier, less fuel efficient, and most likely slower and poorer handling vehicle. More cargo room I guess? Not saying there isn't a market for it, it's just not as lucrative as you all think it is. This isn't the 60s and 70s where sticking a big block and supercharger into any random vehicle meant instant success.

I personally couldn't care about a street truck,(I agree that is a niche market) but GM needs to step up in the off-roading area for trucks.

I'm hoping Ford leaves off-road peformance, aka Raptor, to F-150.
For street performance I'd love to see Ranger take that roll. Leave it's "offroady-ness" intact for the core models, but make it's Ford Performance variant be what the '02 Lightning Bolt prototype never got the chance to bring to market.

So the 454 SS did not sell?
So the Ford Lighting did not well? Dodge make a street truck every few years and they do very well. GM is missing the mark here. They have all the parts. Just borrow a few parts from the Camaro and Corvette and actually offer something. There is a huge market for street trucks. Look at all the guys upgrading them. Most will want a 4 door version, thats fine offer both. Making 5 special addition trucks by adding stickers on them is stupid. How about a real lift? how about some real horse power gains?

They sell great here. Lots and streets are covered in them. Still personally think they are stupid. I can add my own stickers. I want special addition trucks like the Camaro and Corvette get.

You're letting your judgement be clouded by your desires. I'm sure you're about to tell me, "Oh, well I see Dodge Ram Rumble Bees all the time!" or something like that, but at the same time, you're actively seeking them out because you're an enthusiast. For every Rumble Bee or Lightning you've seen, there were probably hundreds if not thousands of normal, every day Ram 1500s or F-150s that went by without you noticing. The market for these things is way smaller than you think. It's further complicated by the fact that you're thinking of trucks built and sold in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s and the overall automotive market is nothing like it was back then. We can debate the stupidity of sticker packages on trucks all day, but in the end, those cost GM relatively little to nothing to create, and consumers who do check those option boxes pay extra for it. It's a win-win. Creating a low-volume niche street truck with an LT4 or whatever, on the other hand, costs GM a ton of engineering and marketing dollars, and the ROI on it simply isn't there. You're saying GM has all the necessary parts, which they do, but GM isn't Bob's Performance Shop down the street. They can't just hack an LT4 out of a wrecked Z06 and cobble it together with a random transmission and shoehorn it into a Regular Cab Silverado. If you're going to build a performance truck these days, it's an off roader. Raptor has been pretty successful for Ford, and ZR2 looks to go in the same direction. Those actually make money because there's more of a market.

Besides, what we're discussing would much better be served by a vehicle GM already does build (for not much longer, I'm sorry to say).
![]() I've been advocating GM bring Utes stateside for a while. In both its utilitarian and performance forms.

And GM doesn't offer one of those either...
I worked for Ford when the lightening came out It did not sit on the lots. It flew out the door. I was to young for the 454 SS. The Ford GT only sold a hand full. No one would never sell like a base truck. However as you can see with the Z06 and the ZL1 these performance models help boost the sales of the base models. People who want the bad boy settle for the base model. GM could have very easily put the 6.2 in a 2 door. No they only offer it in the 4 door. Lots of RND on that one... not... GM could have put an LS7 in a Silverado. Yes there would be some RND but not nearly as much as a Ford GT. GM is missing the mark with crap like limiting the 6.2 to a 4 door. Thats stupid. Or limiting the 4:11 and the 3:73 to the 1 ton. It doesn't take any RND to just stop removing the option on the regular cab. Most people don't even notice the LTZ ins't an option for a regular cab. I would buy a 6.2 in a regular cab with the LTZ option but even that is off limits.
