Hello from Northern California *Potential owner*

Joined here the other day, But I have been browsing your forums on and off for the last few months.

I'm from Northern California, A small town called Mountain House to be exact (between Livermore and Tracy) and work at the Tesla factory in Fremont.

I just got rid of my 2009 Nissan 370Z through the help of my attorney, A run down of that... Carmax sold me lies and a messed up car. I got an attorney and they reached a settlement... They took and paid off the car and they cut me a $17K check ($15500 after attorney fees) that will clear next week

I was originally looking at getting a 2016 or 2017 Ford Mustang GT Premium with the 401A package and performance GT pack. I have a friend with one exactly how I would want mine but in a different color and he loves it, I snooped around it and got a ride in it. It's powerful and actually quite nice... Also note he and his husband have purchased 5 new Fords in 5 years from the same guy at the same dealership and he referred so far about 3 friends to this guy so I could have gotten a really good deal on it and use their employee discount to knock $3K off the price.

But at the same time I was browsing Mustang forums, I would drop by here and browse because I always liked the way the Camaro looked more and not to sound brand loyal, but I grew up with my dad having 2 Trans Am's (1988 GTA and a 1992 GTA) and an uncle who restores classic Chevy's (64 Impala SS, 64 Chevelle SS, 64 El Camino W/454, 50 Chevy Pick up and a 49 Chevy Coupe).

Ended up mentioning on Facebook that I wanted to test drive the new Camaro and found out, One of my old co-workers now works at Dublin Chevrolet... So I swung by after a doctors appointment a week ago and test drove a yellow 2016 2SS A8 with magnetic suspension and the dual mode exhaust. Hated the color (no offense to anyone, I prefer subtle colors) but loved the car... I was afraid that I'd be driving by braille with it's poor visibility. But was surprised it was not really at all that bad (but not great like the Mustang is), I didn't feel like I was driving blind at all. I adjust mirrors in a way that I never really need to turn my head so I didn't have an issue with blind spots or figuring out when to stop from a curb.

I was sold... But not on that specific car, They have a white 2017 that's equipped exactly the same (2SS, Mag ride, NPP exhaust, sunroof, navigation) so I'm going to try and shoot for that one, If we can't get it down to where I want it then I'll travel far for a 2016 since I think I could get a better deal on last years model.

Mustang is nice and has it's benefits but I really didn't like the idea that it's getting a refresh for 2018... I can't get it with an Automatic in the performance pack, and even then the auto is a slush box. I've driven manuals since I was 16 but after carpal tunnel surgery and shitty work hours, I want comfort and remote start.

So there's my story... I hope to be signing a purchase contract by next weekend on a specific white 2017 2SS if not taking a trip to vegas for a 2016 2SS.

I will miss rowing my own gears, But I think I'll grow to love the features it includes. After a 12 hour shift, Shifting myself isn't so much fun or if I'm stuck in the bay area traffic.

When I test drove the A8, I was surprised at how responsive the shifts are... Until I get a new car, I'm borrowing my dads E90 BMW and it's a constant battle with the transmission, Its like it thinks about what gear it needs to go into then 2nd guesses itself. So many times, I accelerated hard to overtake someone and just gave up after it took too long to shift.

A few small complaints I did have with the yellow 2SS is that there's so much plastic in the interior, I saw uneven gaps in some of the panels and the dealer added ground effects was just horribly fitted, the center console was scratched on the driver side and the window trim wasn't evenly lined up... But I think I'm knit picking because I drive cars 2x that all day where everything is wrapped in leather or alcantara with wood or carbon fiber inlays so I got a little spoiled with expensive materials although the usual touch points are nicely padded in the 2SS (First thing I did when I got in the Camaro was touch all the surfaces to see what they're made out of... Force of habit)... But part fitment is kinda similar to what I'm used to and an easy fix.

I'm sure that if you have been reading the posts on here, you know the Bay Area and surrounding area is the epicenter of Camaro car theft. They override stock theft deterrent in minutes. Garage your car and buy an aftermarket alarm. I only want to make sure you're informed. Good luck and enjoy!

I knew 5th gen's were commonly stolen as I follow a bay area auto theft task force on facebook, But I haven't seen anything on the 6th gen's having the same fault.

The 5th uses a conventional key while the 6th uses a proximity key. I know there are devices that amplify the signal but I think if I get a RFID blocking key pouch I should be able to block access to the car and more importantly, the ignition... I intend to keep onstar running and have the family tracker thing on but otherwise I don't want 2 key fobs.

And it will be garaged at home.

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!
