atv owners what would you do?

my kids & us have 4 ATVs between the 4 of us. We ride only on our land (1.1 ac) & have made a path between our place & our neighbors.

Well just a couple months ago we have had new neighbors move in, who happen to have a couple boys, inbetween my two kids ages.

One of the kids keeps coming over & informing my husband & my kids that the next time we are out riding we need to invite them over. Everyone has told this child that we need to talk to the parents before we allow that.

I personally dont know if I would allow them to ride, because I got a funny feeling that if I put them on my daughters current bike (a 50 CC) they would want to ride my son's bike (a 90 CC) or even one of the adult bikes (both are 250s mines a work one & my husbands is a sport manual bike). I dont want anyone on the big bikes, our daughters is for sale so if it gets trashed we are out $800. if the bigger bikes get trashed we are out more

also I dont know if something happens if we would be held responsible or not, even if we have them sign something.

any ideas on how to deal with this?

As someone who has been in a pretty bad atv accident (on someone elses 4 wheeler to boot and on a friends land. My medical insurance kept trying to get information to file a lawsuit against my friends b/c it happened on their land. I told them it was my four wheeler and I refused to tell them whose land it was on.) I wouldn't let someone elses kid on my atv without talking with their parents first.
Maybe they don't want their son to ride them and thats why it has been avoided by him? I dunno...I guess it also depends on the ages/demeanor/experience level of all the kids involved if they would even be allowed to ride at all.

Now its probably pretty hard to get into too much trouble on a 50cc bike but still...when someone's kid gets hurt people often look for ways to make themselves feel better, signed waiver or no signed waiver it would not be a comfortable situation to be in if something went wrong and you can sue for anything doesn't mean you can win but lawyers and time aren't free.

Go with your gut on this one imo, wait until you have a good long talk with the kids parents and take it from there.

If I were in your shoes I'd say no. I definitely don't let any kids ride our bikes/atv's without talking to the parents first. And I will only let the kids ride if I REALLY know the family. Some new kid showing up asking to ride..it just wouldn't happen. There's got to be a polite way to say sorry but no.

Good Luck.. I know it's a hard situation to be in..Seems like kids just come out of the woodworks when you have cool toys!

I'd say sorry, but no. It's an inherently dangerous activity with kids who haven't been trained on their proper use.

WE have had these bikes for 3yrs now & it took my daughhter weeks before she was up to riding hers alone, now she enjoys riding the bigger bikes, & my son who is 15 likes riding mom & dads bikes. So once hers is sold he will get his dads & she will get his.

They outgrow them fast....my boys spent two years on 90's then jumped right to the 250's, my oldest now is on the LTZ400...the Trailblazer 250 is pretty much a spare now.

You do not have to invite them over at all, they're the ones asking you to do it, and you have a right to say no.

Protect yourself at all cost's. If it hurts their feelings, the'll get over it. It isn't worth the headache if they hurt themselves or break your quad(s).
