When to avoid a gas station

I've heard that you should never buy gas while there is a tanker filling the wells because it kicks up all the sediment that's settled at the bottom of them, and that could get into your engine. Has that been verified, or is it just playing safe? I don't know if the pumps have filters for that purpose, but unless I'm on empty I still go elsewhere when a tanker is there.

The pumps have filters...plus your car has a fuel filter that will catch anything....i think that avoiding a station while a truck is there is kinda silly

You should avoid getting gas while the tanker is off loading because the gas gets aerated during the transfer. You get less gas by volume pumped. Also, the gas in the tanker is probably at a higher temperature than that in the ground. Again, you get less gas by volume.

Funny timing for this post. I filed up my boats 6 gallon gas tank plus an additional 2 1/2 gallon container on my way to camp at the Delaware Water Gap this weekend. Motor started on the first pull. Ran down river to pick up a friend and noticed power was off a bit. He got in the boat and it bogged down then died. Checked everything, had spark and gas to carberator. Got new gas, good to go. Never had that happen before!

There is some truth to this folks. Friend of mine has managed a gas station for years and he said the same thing--I thought he was talking s*** but he said never come here when were getting the tanks filled.

I work at a plant that pumps hundreds of thousands of gallons of alcohol, methanol and other wonderful flammable liquids every day. The aeration part is simply not true. Temperature of the truck being slightly higher than in the ground would make a small difference but not enough to worry about in car tank volumes

And I have been putting gas in the same cars for years. Tanker or not......top tier or bottom.....and guess what? They have yet to explode or suffer performance failure. They just keep going and going and going.
