Finally pulled the trigger on a V8...

This post is definitely a bit of a bait and switch. Spoiler... I didn't buy the SS. I've been reading this forum for a few months and was narrowing my choices down between a few cars including the 2SS, M2, M4 and the RC F. I got a chance to test drive the Camaro several times and frankly was extremely impressed (and still am). The car is really fantastic and a great value for the performance that you get.

However, In the end we decided that for the kind of money we were going to spend on a 2SS might as well go up to a luxury brand. The RC F won over the M2/M4 due to a better balance of every day drivability and comfort coupled with the promise of better overall service experience and reliability. My wife and I actually drove the RC F and the Camaro 2SS back to back before making the final decision.

The Camaro was more raw, louder and definitely felt more athletic. However, overall fit and finish, visibility (a problem for my wife in the Camaro) and general amenities went to the Lexus. Look forward to keeping tabs on this forum and maybe picking up a used SS in a few years as a dedicated track car. In the mean time, here is the new ride...

Wow I actually like the rcf, interior especially but it has a lot of weight
Did you know if you say "cooler" on voice commands the AC will lower the temperature

I thought Lexus was an old people's car. I'm in my early 30s so either way not sure what it says about me...

You guys are being overly harsh on the guy lol......

I like the RCF, really makes for a great cruiser and has the V-8 engine sound to boot.... it certainly does the luxury stuff really well.

What were the prices for each car?....I always find it curious the Camaro price gets griped about as being high, but then buyers spend more for something else.

I thought the popular thing to do was to buy a POS Mustang for less money than a Camaro?

The Camaro just can't win, it seems. It's either costs too much money, or it doesn't cost enough to make people happy.

Congrats. It's a beautiful car and you will for sure enjoy the hell out of it. We both enjoyed the limited time we were in one on test drives. The fit and finish was top notch. That and the cayman s were on the short list of cars my wife was cross shopping. Guess in hindsight we should have gone with one of those. And for what it's worth that camry probably left the factory with an appropriate level of quality control. And paint.

Can't speak for the OP but the RCF's we shopped were in the 65-67k range with the performance pack, nav and upgraded audio.

Buy what you and your wife like and don't worry about the fanboys. I think it's a good looking car.

Wait, I'm not even sure I follow the logic trail of OP's statement that if they were gonna spend the money on a 2SS (roughly $46K) they decided to just go full-boat up to an RC-F which base prices at $63K but after clicking a few worthy options you're easily at $70K. That's a $24K swing on a notion of "meh we've gone this far...".

That being written, on a purely car enthusiast level, RC-F would've been my last choice out of all of those...way too heavy compared to the competition and the motor is weak (as well as too peaky) for that price range. In my eyes, they built it to beat the E92 M3 but didn't consider that the paradigm would shift beyond what they were shooting for before it was too late.

In that loftier ($75K to $85K) price range I have it:
1. New Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe (it is incoming)
2. Cadillac ATS-V
3. BMW M4
4. Audi S5 (until they bring back the RS but even here you'd need to take it to Stage 2 which brings the total to about $70K all-in)
5. Lexus RC-F

It's pretty though, I'm on board there. Also Toyota/Lexus reliability is on-point. But if you have enough money to buy a car at that level you have enough money to afford the extended warranty. Hell, my current car is a level below that car and I was easily able to do extended warranty plus maintenance plan.

At the end of the day it is what makes you happy. My wife has a Lexus and there is no arguing the quality, amenities and reliability but that is not the reason that we brought our Camaro...
