If more and more stories about this kind of stuff comes out of the Toyota camp, combined with all the recent recalls, it could be the start of a downhill slide to a GM-ish problem a few years down the road.

It takes years to get a reputation that's good, but seconds to destroy it. And then even longer to recover.

Personally I just like stories like this because I hate Toyota's "Eco Blob" styling.

Hmmm, I agree- smell test on this is foul:

Leaves Toyota and gets a 3.7million 'severance' but it is unclear if this is a payoff or if it's a contract provision- either way, 3.7 million.

Then goes to work at the County (likely now making about 100,000/year or less). This doesn't go well and there is a severance disagreement over a few months of work.

Then he starts a business teaching lawyers how to prep for suits or whatever, but somehow what he's teaching violates the confidentiality agreement in his severance?

Not enough here to be sure- but it has the feeling of someone who wants to brag on his experience who got shut down for it, and is then crying whistleblower.

I wouldn't hang my hats on this one being Toyota's come-uppance. Maybe it will be, who knows.

Here's his bio:

http://ldtconsulting.com/credentials.html

and here's an excerpt:

"In the world of Electronic Discovery while at Toyota, Mr. Biller used every case seeking electronically stored information (“ESI”) under his management as an opportunity to confront E-Discovery issues, develop policies and procedures to satisfy E-Discovery obligations, and actually implemented these policies and procedures in real cases. These policies and procedures included:

....
Developing evidence to prove Toyota satisfied E-Discovery rules;
....
Educating senior level executives, managers, and associates on E-Discovery legal and technical issues;"

Reading this, it would seem this gentleman may be more part of the problem then of any solution. Keep in mind, this is HIS OWN bio. There's a lot there that I didn't read all of.

Please give me incite into what you meant by your post then. Since I mentioned nothing of GM, but you felt the need to bring up the bailouts.

Toyota designs are horrible. The Prius is the ugliest of them all.

You rarely hear about Toyotas problems. If they aren't flawless then the very rationale from buying from a non U.S. OEM falls appart. It must be true in order for the average American to not feel bad for buying from a foreign OEM.

Hmmmmmm, not so sure just yet. I think the jury is still out. They have expanded at a very fast pace and quality data shows they dropped the ball getting there.

Just seems like it's not very big news because is has no real merrit. Just because it is in the courts, doesn't mean it is true.

There are cases in the courts where people sued 'Froot Loops' because it didn't really have fruit in it.
And just recently, a California judge ruled against a lady who tried to sue because the 'Crunch Berrys' in Cruch Berrys weren't real berries.

I'd wait to see if this story really has any truth.

Just sayin'. Know what I'm sayin'
Yes, I know what your sayin'. Until this plays out just a bit more, we may never realy understand the motivations for this. We will see how far down the rabbit hole we go.

Balance sheet wise, yes. We (GM) still have to overcome a negative public perception. The same public that has granted Toyota the darling of the press for Green-ness.

Yeppper!!!!

Toyota is not to be discounted here. They are buying trucks back right and left due to frame corrosion. They had cam shafts breaking in the new trucks V8. Yet they are realy not getting any negative press for this. But even Consumer Reports has held back on some of the automatic recommend buys on the Camry. They have attained a special status with the press and very little Toyota bashing goes on in the media, regardless of their transgression. This will be interesting to see how this plays out............................or doesn't.

count me in!! ermhrm...maybe that was a little overzealous...

...NAH!!

Here's to watching TOYota fall really hard, face-first, into a big pile of their own automotive CRAP!

I think I'll make a new commercial:

Bulbous, uninspiring, non-impressive Toyota Camry?
$25,600

Gas-guzzling, tailgate-dropping, piss-poor excuse for a truck, Toyota Tundra?
$27,200

Learning that the Prius has a greater net environmental impact than a lifetime of fueling a Hummer?
$1.50

Watching Toyota get pummeled by lawsuit after lawsuit and witnessing a drop in sales due to poor product?

Priceless.
