Stop street racing, tell your kids. See consequence

A 23 year old kid lost his life around my house Saturday at 11:45am CST sunny day due to street racing. He lost control and wrapped car around tree, caught fire and driver died. Please show this to your kids w fast cars and this can be the result.

I don't have kids but I feel I need to pass on to all parents w fast cars thinking of street racing. If they do, please take keys and teach a lesson vs the parents of this kid now planning a funeral. The car was a Infiniti g37 coupe.

May he rest in peace.

And I totally agree with your sentiments on street racing... and even for the veterans who should know better - Don't be taunted by some idiot that doesn't know better. Street racing puts everyone in danger. Keep your cool around them and maybe wave if you feel up to it. Says a lot more than a stupid street race...

As long as they are doing it somewhere where there is no chance of innocent people being hurt, I could really care less about street racing in general. People who do it know the risks involved with their own personal safety... People can decide for themselves if that risk is worth taking as long as it doesn't affect others. On that note, I'm glad this kid didn't hurt anyone else, but it is nevertheless very sad that he lost his life. RIP.

I'm an old guy who did a ton of street racing on rural blacktops back around the late sixties. The difference between today and back then is the performance of modern cars. Back then we all thought we were fast but would be lucky to run 14 seconds at the local strip! I have a supercharged SS that is still "twitchy" at 95 mph. No way on being side by side with another car. And besides this, it's not worth it. Life is way to precious!

I am indeed always amazed on here by all the stories of, "Some punk in a (insert non GM brand name here) pulled up next to me and wanted to race so I dusted him..." etc.

Speeding down the street does not a man make and the older guys should realize that already.

Unfortunately, kids in their late teens and early 20's make lots of bad life decisions. It's important to do whatever's possible to help look out for them. Yes it is their choice, but not something that you ever want to hear having happened to your own kid (or a relative).

Street racing is plain foolish. Go to the track - or just don't look to prove yourself. Prove yourself through life success.

I love all the moral mongos on here. Yes, kids do things in inappropriate places and sadly people get hurt. It's a fact of life that isn't going to change. Yes, the performance numbers on cars these days make it more likely. On the other hand......even in my mid 50s if the time is ripe and it's not a threat to other drivers.....I may (won't admit to it on the net) have a go with someone. In Mexico of course

Yes, we all do stupid stuff - young or old. But without Darwin recipients where would we get Parts Cars?

Look at the sheer number of Ford GT's, Porsche Carrera GT's, Lambos that are totalled by idiots you think they can drive and can't

Street racing is really stupid. You can hit a test and tune at the local strip for $20, do it legally and get an official time slip too. No sense in risking a street race. I think that show about Outlaw racing on cable TV has really promoted street racing with kids.

The problem is that the strips are all closed by 11pm for noise.

Too bad for the kid,he had his last "Oh Shit" moment sliding toward that tree.

I used to street race as a teen into my 20's,30's and into my 40's.

I have not street raced since I was 45 when I met my current GF.

She wants me to have fun but at the track.

We now we have very tough seizure and suspension laws up here.
