Why Books Are Better

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the film "No Country for Old Men" but many layers of subtle meaning got skipped vs the novel because of various reasons.

Snippet from the novel, way more depth than the film version:

If you would actually turn a good book into a movie and include all the subtle things it would be wayyy longer than 2hrs

"I am not a man of words. But I respect the power of words, for that is what transformed me. The words of the Sith Code. Others had heard them, contemplated them, and so on. But I understood them, and they changed me. For what was I before I heard those words? Nothing."

when i was a kid i was in the school library and heard one librarian tell another "the movie is never as good as the book."
I've found this is true many times, but the reverse can also be true. Sometime's which one i like best depends on which i encountered first. Sometime's they change thing's needlessly when they make a movie. Other time's they actually streamline something that needs it.

I like to watch the movie before reading the book so I'll know what the characters look like.

Some of the best books have never been made into movies. Snow Crash is one of those (so far)...by Neal Stephenson. In fact, I just got his book Seveneves today and will be reading it over the next week.

Dune... I, Robot... even the old Dr. Who series... books much better than the movie.

Yes, I read Dr. Who books.

Just checked out a brief description of Snow Crash, wow! I am going to buy it. Thanks for the idea.

Remember that it was written back in the 90's...and is still one of the best books you'll ever read. I'm not really kidding when I say that.

I mean, how can you not like a samurai sword wielding pizza delivery driver working for the mafia in a dystopian future

I will say that Blade Runner was better than the book it was based on (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep).

Half the books I read are from the 70's and 80's, not an issue

Philip K Dick was a true master. Try out Ubik for a mind bender....
