That sounds like a dream... any lot I have ever stepped onto was just creepy, due to the Walking Dead- like salespeople all gravitating and stumbling towards me... what, did I make a sound? The only thing NOT Walking Deadish about the hordes of saleszombies is that I have actually seen them SPRINT through the lot in order to be the first one to reach me.

I'd love to peruse the lots alone, but having a yapping salesperson, with little knowledge about the cars, but lots of "clever" tricks to fool me into handing over all of my cash is just annoying. I can sometimes keep them at bay by telling them that I am not buying, but just waiting for somebody else who is inside, or that I have a bad case of Ebola. Of course, a REAL zombie doesn't care about Ebola, so sometimes I just have to double- tap 'em.

Stuff like that is why I'm currently looking for my next car online. I've been treated like that once before and refuse to go through it again. You don't have to sweat a customer, but at least give the the courtesy of offering your service and saying hello.

I think being in the lot and looking is fine to do without a salesman bothering you or introducing themselves. I do not think it should be that way when I walk in the front door. Something as simple as a "Hello, how can I help you today?" will suffice. If I need directions to the service department or other department, they can then give it, or then offer to help if I tell them I am here to look at a vehicle.

Its really no different than walking into a store and having a salesman ask if I am finding everything okay or if I need help. I can't remember the last time I went into a retail store and was not greeted by someone on staff. Service makes a difference when choosing not only what to buy, but where to buy.
