its not a bored out 5.0 from the 4.6 engine, this is a whole NEW engine,
The natural uses of this all-new engine will be in the Mustang GT, of
course, first and foremost. It will give the Mustang GT a much better value
proposition when compared to the Challenger and Camaro - right now it lacks
quite a few ponies. Ford will probably also use this engine in the F-150 -
possibly replacing both the current 4.6 and the 5.4 liter V8's.

Not much better than a bigger, more powerful Mustang engine. And the fact
that it's all-aluminum is a huge plus - it should help the front-end weight
bias a bit. lets not forget that 6 speed transmission is coming also, TR-6060 manual and the 6 speed auto from the Explorer Sport Trac will be used in the GT. look out camaro

Theres going to be more added weight than just the engine, I guarantee it.

It's no rumor. Ford already has DI TT motors.

That's already been confirmed, the f-150 WILL get the 5.0, because after this year there won't be any more 4.6's or 5.4's, they have been phased out.

@ Countach, The mustang is not getting Ecoboost (Yet...), but it IS getting a new 3.7l v6 putting out about 275hp/270lbft

Direct injection wont be used on any naturally aspirated Ford engines anytime soon, at least not on the ones sold in North America. The 5.0L Coyote wont be DI. As for Ford not bringing the 2011 out to a track day like that, over the last couple of years most of the really good rumors have actually come from within Ford. They do this kind of thing on purpose to keep interest up. And we have known for some time now that there will be bigger and badder evolutions of the Track Pack. The current Track Pack folks occasionally refer to as a 'track special' setup is anything but and was intended to be an everyday, driver friendly package much like the SVT Focus, etc.

Things can change, but outside of some rumors indicating that Shelby was considering producing a 3.5L EB powered GT350 built at the Shelby shop every shred of evidence about the 2011 Mustang powerplants indicates the 3.5L EB isn't on the menu. It is 100% confirmed that the base Mustang is slated to get the 3.7L Duratec V6 making 275+hp.

I hear this a lot on non-Ford forums, but thus far there really isn't any evidence to support this with what evidence we do have directly contradicting it. Right now the car appears slated to gain significantly less than 100lb, many sources indicate overall weight gain will be less than 50lb.

Some sources indicate that one or the other might be slated to stick around a bit before being phased out depending upon other factors. Such a move would be inline with Ford engine ramp ups from the past where certain vehicles switch to the new mill right away while others wait a year or so to make the move to the new engine.

2011 Mustang engine lineup looks like this

Base: 3.7L DOHC V6 producing at least 275hp and 270lb-ft of torque

GT: 5.0L DOHC V8 producing at least 400hp and 400 lb-ft of torque

GT500: 5.4L DOHC SC/INT V8 with aluminum block producing at least 540hp

*3.7L is currently slated to give way to the 2.5L EB four cylinder when that motor comes online, probably a few years down the road, but things can change.

The current 4.6 engine in the GT is all-aluminum, so I'm not sure how you think the new motor it is going to help the weight bias.
