Yeah,....I know. I think it's getting close now. Let's LOVE it while we can.
It's gonna be tough trying to decide between the GT500 and the Hellcat for me in the year 2016.

CAFE standards change in 2016. It goes from 27.5 to 37.8 mpg

"The Obama Administration today finalized groundbreaking standards that will increase fuel economy to the equivalent of 54.5 mpg for cars and light-duty trucks by Model Year 2025."

Chevy Sonic, Ford Festa, Honda Element, etc. are nowhere near the now

That's 10 years away, a lot of time for advancement in motors. However will we see 6.2L 700+ hp gas engines? Probably not.

It's already here. CAFE and emissions regulations cost us the LTx 7.0 liter and gave us this bastard of a Z06.

Sounds like a politician's logic. Someone else will figure it out. This is a pipe dream, please explain to me what new technology has been introduced in the past 10 years. DI has been around for almost 100 years. Turbochargers even longer. Cylinder deactivation is nothing new either. Gains in efficiency come from incremental changes in existing technology, improved materials, and use of exotic and more expensive materials. Aluminum will never be as cheap as steel, and carbon fiber and other high end materials are, and always will be exponentially more expensive than materials in use today. Increased efficiency can be achieved, but you can bet your ass you will pay for it.

That's not what I was getting at. hotlapZL1 stated that the Chevy Sonic, Ford Festa, Honda Element, etc. are nowhere near the 2025 CAFE standards. MY POINT in what I said, was that I'm sure in 10 years Auto manufacturers will be compliant with these CAFE standards. Maybe that means more hybrids and three and four cylinder engines in the economy cars. There will still be performance cars that are as capable or even more capable than they are today. I was implying they probably won't be as large displacement as they are today, but they're also not going to be some limp wristed tree hugging engine either.

My opinion.

Honestly, the future of performance is already on display. All one has to do is look to the 918 Spyder and the P1. Hybrid tech is NOT just for econoboxes. The age of high performance HP coming solely from an ICE source are all but numbered. The move to hybrid, nontraditional as it may be, setups will allow petrol tech to continue on.

The next question is whether we as the enthusiast consumer are ready for a semi-electrified Camaro, Mustang, etc. That being said, the current offerings I mentioned earlier utilize their electric motors to supplement the ICE on the front wheels, creating an "eAWD" if you will. So, the other thing we may have to learn to adapt to is the loss of solely RWD propulsion.

Exactly. You only brag about handing when your car is getting spanked in a straight line by everyone else. Chevy needs to get back in the game. 580 hp ain't gonna cut it anymore, unless 3rd place out of 3 is where they want to be.

If rumors hold true. I wont argue that one. With IRS more horsepower should be an awesome car.
