So how can there be any serious talk of weight reduction on the next gen? Why would Chevrolet walk away from the Camaro after accomplishing so much with the gen5? I find it hard to accept a CNN article on this.
Where did you see the Z06 might gain so much weight?

The 6th gen should lose weight because GM has a much better platform to start with. The biggest downfall of the 5th gen is weight and everyone knows it.

"Predictably, the stiffer structure is also heavier than that of the outgoing car’s. Indeed, it’s one of the reasons that the new Z06 will carry a significantly heavier curb weight. How much heavier? Well, Chevy says it doesn’t really know yet since development is ongoing. But we’re told to expect that it will be weightier not than just the old Z06 (3259 pounds), but also the ZR1 (3353), too. Figure somewhere between 3600 and 3700 pounds and you’re probably close."

I had a feeling that the Z06 would be significantly heavier than the C6 Z06 but that's substantial. I was predicting more around 3500 lbs.

This Z06 has lost what made the Z06 so awesome to me.

700+HP motors can't just be dropped into a chassis designed for 400HP. With the upgraded engines come upgraded frames, rear end links, axle shafts, etc., etc., etc. Weights for Camaros, Mustangs, and Corvettes will go up if they start running HP numbers like the Hellcat.
These HP wars are starting to make me feel like the guy with a peashooter in a gunfight.

600 or less HP weak? In what world?

I can get in plenty of trouble with my modded V6....a 400+ HP V8 in a 3700lb car would more than make me happy. I don't need this much power...

That said I think its pretty damn awesome that we are seeing power reach these scary levels in a relatively afforable pony car, but I'll never need it. More power to you guys that end up buying on of these monsters.\

OH...and I'll believe this when I see it lol

The camaro will never get a super high end model like that. It will always choose the corvette over any other model that's their bread and butter. It has a cult like following that can't be matched by any other car and mainly has a fan base of now older people with money. I don't care (corvette or camaro) I would love to see a special edition 800 hp twin turbo beast to show everyone up.

Couldn't agree more. I can't wait for the new z06 to come out so the price if the old will come down and I can get one.

A Ford spokesman wouldn't comment on its competitors car, but a new Shelby GT500 with, potentially, more power is expected to be revealed some time soon.

A General Motors spokesman indicated that that automaker has no plans to try to approach the Hellcat's horsepower output, at least in a Camaro. GM has already unveiled a version of the Corvette two-seat sports car, the Z06, with a 650 horsepower engine"

GM will have a Camaro in this hunt. It may not have 707 HP but it may not need it. As others have pointed out, drop to 10.99 and your not on the strip anymore so what's the point? 650 HP LT4 in a 3700 lb ZL1be fine
I hope you are right. I do have doubts about a 650HP ZL1. I think the LT4 will be detuned in the ZL1. Can't see them keeping the same HP as the Z06, but I hope I'm wrong.
