Llama at one time had a not-so sterling reputation. On the gun forums I visit they are not spoken of glowingly. Do some research on when it was made and any problems regarding that model.

From what I've been able to find, the 9mm version is running in the $200-$250 range. But like the poster above said, they are not good pistols. They are one of those pistols where if you ever got attacked, you may be better off using it to hit them than shooting them. Also keep in mine replacement parts for Llama 1911's are nonexistent. The Llama's do not share the same spec's as standard 1911's so their parts will not fit. If you ever need to replace something, it will need to be custom made by you or a gunsmith. Personally, I wouldn't even think about buying it.

So I've been thinking of buying/building an AR even though I have no idea what I'm doing. I'd want something similar in length to the pic below to be used for just shooting at the range. I'd want quality and reliability but not something that would break the bank. I'd also need to buy stuff like an Eotech, pmag, grip, etc so that'd need to be factored in as well. Can someone lead me in the right direction?

? Holiday weekend
EOTECH is great and all but in my opinion it's a luxury that will drive up the price of your AR build/buy. I'd say buy/build your AR and add the EOTECH later, so that the cost of the EOTECH can be put towards the rest of the rifle. I'm also not sure about the short barrel trend. What's the reason you need the short barrel? If it's a range gun I wouldn't be so worried about a short barrel. Gas pressures at the port are higher with shorter barrels and can lead to issues with cycling; if you are building, bear this in mind.

If you're going to build one yourself, scrap the delta ring and get a free float rail, and scrap that front sight post and get a low profile gas block. Midway USA is a good site for parts. sucks, you just missed out on some killer 4th of July deals.
I was able to snag a Black Forge weapons lower for $59
