Sounds good, and I bet there would be some buyers... But don't count on it in the 5th gen.

My point is that packages and trim levels get redefined all the time. Just like the SS was just an appearance package at one time and even available on many 6 cylinder cars...

I thought the press release said the original Z06 also came in a convertible.

If you don't think the Z06 should have a convertible or an automatic, then don't get a convertible or automatic. Problem solved. The only complaint about the Z06 that's valid is the supercharger, and that's because you don't have any other option.

Besides, it's not the first time they did a convertible Z06. Remember the run of 427 Corvettes they did last year? Come to think of it, that one had a navy colored interior as well.

The only thing new here is the automatic, and you need to get a life if that annoys you. There are a lot of people out there who are disabled/have bad knees that can't drive a stick, and I don't think it's fair to exclude them.

The 427 was not a Z06.

I guess Team Camaro should get a life. They made certain the Z/28 only came with a manual.

The 427 was similar to the Z06 but it's not the same car. The 427 has a steel frame whereas the Z06 has the lighter aluminum frame. And the interior wasn't navy, it was diamond blue, no wheres near as dark as navy blue:

Apparently not, I was mistaken on that, but they have offered Z06 convertibles before. Not recently though.

What I said doesn't apply in any way to Team Camaro. I said the people who get pissed off over automatics need to get a life. If Team Camaro wants to design a car without an automatic that's their decision; I'm talking about the people who get upset about an automatic being present when the option for a manual is still available.

Looks like navy. The 427's shade is definitely lighter, but they're both dark blue if you ask me.

An excerpt from the link I posted on the History of the Z06.
Quote:
RPO Z06 package first offered on ’63 models included a 20 percent larger diameter front antiroll bar, a vacuum brake booster, a dual master cylinder, sintered-metallic brake linings within power-assisted Al-Fin drums cooled by front air scoops and vented backing plates, larger diameter shocks and springs nearly twice as stiff as standard.

These Corvettes came to be known as known as the “Big Tanks” because the package initially had a 36.5-gallon gas tank versus the standard 20-gallon for races such as Sebring and Daytona. At first, the package was only available on coupes because the oversized tank would not fit in the convertible.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The only engine option on the Z06 was the L84 327-cubic-inch displacement engine with Rochester fuel injection. With factory exhaust manifolds, required to run the cars in the Sports Car Club of America’s production classes, Chevrolet rated the engine at 360 horsepower.

Z06 cost an extra $1,818.45 over the base coupe price of $4,252. Chevrolet later lowered the package price and eliminated the big tank from the Z06 package though it remained available as a single add-on option for any coupe. Chevy then began offering Z06 on the convertible as well. Chevy produced 199 Z06s. Of those 199, many likely were used for play versus strictly racing as only 124 cars were delivered without radios and just 63 with the 36-gallon fuel tank - though the tank was a benefit only to long races.
So how much of this was in the heritage or tradition of the last two Z06 corvettes?

They're still there just moved to under the car on convertibles

The power top mechanism did force Chevy to relocate the trans and differential coolers to the underbody.
