Since OnStar is listening and recording everything you say and do along with tracking every place you go, the license plate showing on the Camaro forum should be the least of your worries...

Not so worried about my car, but when posting a picture I've taken of a random car, or a car that the owner has not given me permission to post his plate no. I will obscure it out of respect since I'm not sure if they're OK with it or not.

Yea I never got that. Your plate is on your car as you're driving it around in public.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I personally see no point in blurring the plate numbers in my pictures online considering the hundreds of people I might pass on a given day that would see my plate numbers and use them to their advantage if so inclined.

I covered my windshield VIN with carbon fiber so nobody can get that information either. :-)

But it is different, or at least it can be.

At least one mfr has denied warranty coverage for repairs that could have been attributed to known participation in the same form of motorsports that the same mfr tacitly supports with gear such as harnesses, helmets, and other racing parts. An SCCA guy I know who works in the insurance industry rarely admits to driving anything in terms more specific than "a car", let alone post pictures with a visible plate number.

On the street, your plate is just another anonymous number that's generally gone from any other person's awareness in a matter of seconds (if they even bothered to look at it in the first place). Call this safety in numbers, or hiding in plain sight if it makes it easier to understand.

Me, I can't help it if somebody was to dig deep enough to track any of my cars down to me, based on a picture of unknown date. But I don't have to make it too easy.

So basically, don't post your plate number so your insurance company and GM won't know you're violating your warranty? Hmm..

Same reason they cover them at the race track, insurance.

If they find out you track your car they could cancel your policy.
