Anyone feel GM waits on industry trends set by *ehem* others *ehem* and shows up late to the party?

The advantage (sort of?) for GM is they wouldn't have to loose as much weight as Ford to stay close, so that has to help. If GM can lose another couple hundred lbs, and gain another 1 or two MPG via powertrain advances they are right there with Ford.
I think an issue is that people tend to think of the new GM trucks as just a slightly new, refinded version of the old truck, while Ford has made a bigger impact, to the point that people are looking at it as a much bigger evolution...something new and exciting. I don't think GM accomplished that. Now that is a dang good looking truck.

That is definitely an "almost always" - the most innovative thing they have done recently is bring back a mid-sized truck with a small diesel to the American market which is actually really cool. GM should do stuff like this more often.

Like Kyle said, the midsize trucks are probably the first big gamble GM's taken in a while. Especially with the diesel.

I think its fuel prices and the scare of them rising, and that the truck is just avg looking have hurt the sales numbers. big square wheel wells make the tires look small. front is way to busy looking, count how many different lines/pieces there are on the front nearly 50. The new interiors are avg also nothing that makes me think wow i really want that. The GMC nose is better looking but has a lot smaller dealer foot print. The new Colorado looks great to me we will see how that does.

I think there first priority is hire a new design team for there trucks. How does GM come out with the gorgeous 5th gen Camaro and the C7 vette but yet can't build a good looking truck. Square wheel wells really?

GM trucks have had squared off wheel wells for ages.

exactly some times you need to change so it doesn't feel stale.
I dont dislike the square wheel wells its just that they are so high that the tire looks lost in it. the truck just looks like it was designed not to offend or turn anyone away but that also means no one see's it and says i have to have that truck. |
