I have been looking at video reviews on YouTube, most have been highly positive. But they all are still commenting on the transmission calibrations still need some Tweeking. One thing is on the trailhawk model it has sort of a off road cruise control you can set and it maintains a constant speed up and down inclines without you needing to touch the gas or brake. It's all handled through the shift lever.

Yes, i watched those videos. I am surprised at how capable the Cherokee really is. That cruise control function is pretty sweet too, seems like it may be a bit daunting too letting the vehicle do that much of the work. I think I would actually be more on edge using it lol.

I know it is not supposed to look just like the old ones, but in this case I wish it had a little more throwback to the older models, that's just my opinion of course. I know it is far more advanced technology and creature comfort wise, and I am sure it has great capability with better fuel economy. I just have many great memories around our old jeep and my buddies jeep, and when I see the new re-design, nothing takes me back to those memories. I think I would actually like it more just as it is but with a different name, I know that is silly, but it just does not say Jeep Cherokee to me in the least looks wise. I guess I'm just a little surprised by how different it is from the previous design, I'm sure that MANY people will love them, its just not for me.

I certainly understand. Had a 96 Sport 4x4 myself and loved it. Built like a tank. I also remember how crappy it was to get in the backseat and cramped room was. Honestly the patriots similarity to the CHerokee in the looks department is one reason why I loved it so much lol. I do kind of wish they had went more traditional myself, but over 25k sales in 2 months on the market says a lot i guess.

Back then we had a local mud race/ off road drag strip near hear, I got the itch one time and entered my Jeep in the drags. I won in the 6 cylinder class and was within .2 second of the winning V8. Mine was all stock but it sure ran better than any other 6 cylinder. I also entered in a off road rally race on 4th of July and won it.... So yes that jeep was a blast untill the tranny wouldn't stay in third gear...

I don't think it had much to do with the drags or off road rally because it was a year later before it started acting up. The Jeep dealer tried everything but replacing the tranny and refused to do that, so I got pissed and traded it for a used 79 Camaro.
