2014 Jeep Cherokee
Has anyone bought or driven a new Jeep Cherokee? I will probably be replacing my Saturn Vue either this year or next and would like some first hand ownership reports.
Details of which model you have, engine and 4X4 or Two wheel drive, purchase price too. Thanks.

I've been seeing a lot of them lately. I know a lot have places have been saying to hold off to make sure the tranny is reliable (the car got delayed due to reliability issues with the new tranny).

One reason I am asking now about experiences with them. I am hoping to keep this thread active untill I am ready to buy. I will probably wait till next year since my Vue is a 2008 with only 60,000 miles on it. I am still considering a Equinox, but I have a good understanding of them.

I have a friend who bought one. They didn't have it very long before trading it back in. I'm not sure what the deal was, he just said they didn't like it. The wife has a 13 equinox she uses for a DD and we both love it. I drove it on a 200 miles round trip and got 37 MPG, granted the cruse was set at 55 and it was a supper flat straight roads, but even at 75 on the interstate it will get 27-30. Iv been really impressed by it. |

Funny you say that because I have owned 4 jeeps of different models and years and 3 of them I had transmission issues with. The 4th was a 76 CJ-7 and it had a GM Turbo hydromatic 400 in it. It was virtually unbreakable.

OP - Seeing that you have owned 3 Jeeps in the past, how do you like the re-design?
I have personally owned a Cherokee, and had some buddies with some nice Cherokees and have always been a fan. With the redesign, just nothing about it says "jeep" to me, especially compared to the old Cherokee platform. I just think it should have been more "boxy" when compared to the grand Cherokee, with more of an "off road" feel. I know its not a wrangler, but the design just seems way off base for the crowd who I know and assimilate with the Cherokees. Sorry OP, I don't mean to throw your thread off, just curious as to your thoughts. |

No it's not traditional boxy jeep styling, but then I don't think this Cherokee is meant for hard core off roading in the first place, but it's more capable in the trailhawk model than any comparable mid sized car based SUV out there.

It wasn't delayed because of reliability, it was delayed for calibration issues and getting it to work flawlessly with the various AWD systems. it is the ZF transmission that already sees use in the this and RR Evoque. It is also slated for quite a few more vehicles across many manufacturers (can't remember them right now though). I wouldn't be remotely concerned with actual relibility.

I really need to get behind the wheel of one. My Patriot was a great little trucklet and the only problem i really had 120k miles was I had to replace the front ball joints, though I also took it off-road nearly every weekend which is the prime contributor. it was not the FD2 off-road model. Anyways, thie Cherokee basically solves every thing I didn't like about the Patriot. I am actually hoping to pick upthing newer in the next year or 2. THis is on my shortlist which is.
Cherokee Trailhawk Coloroado/Canyon 4WD (Canyon preferred for the fulltime 4WD option) 15+ WRX 13+ Fusion Titanium AWD 15+ Chrysler 200S V6/AWD. mind you i will be looking for used instead of new at that time. |
