I've been greatly disappointed with the design over several models. But I will agree the new stang has potential. We will see what Ford does with it.

Agree, you said rice. Cars like Supra's, GTR's, NSX, LFA, ect.. are not Rice so long as the owner doesn't RICE it out.

OP, you should be proud that he wants an American pony/muscle car. It could be a lot worse. He could want a WRX, EVO, BRZ, Genesis, ect.. I personally like all three American Pony cars especially since Ford did the refresh for 2013. In fact I think the current 2014 Camaro looks worse than both the Ford and Dodge offerings of the same year. Mainly because of the rear end design. On a plus note if he gets a 2014 Mustang and you are paying for it, be happy. The 2014 Camaro cost a good 5k more than a 2014 Mustang. Ohh and by the way GM performance cars are for sure the dark side

You always want your children to do better than you, but you are always a little upset when they do.

Any thoughts on internet boards for Mustangs that are in the league of Camaro5?
I think I can claim an even more shameful story.

I have had an 86 Mustang Conv for 21 years that I have put 200,000 miles on driving all over the US and Canada. My son loves the car and wants to reprise our travels with it, but he is so tough on cars I told him I am going to give the car to his son.

My grandson however loves to tell me that as soon as he gets the car, he is going to sell it and buy a Camaro.

Oh the shame!

Thank you for all the input guys!

As usual Camaro5 informs and entertains!

The color still hasn't fully returned to his face after he learned what the insurance will cost for an 18 yr old with a v8 (sports car class).

I had a V8 Camaro when I was 18 and living in Belmont too. Insurance was only $120 a month but it wasn't full coverage as it was a 67. It was red with black rally stripes if you ever remember seeing it.

We went and drove a used (20K mies) '13 GT premium coupe with the factory short throw shifter this afternoon at a local dealer.

It was a fun enough drive.

Pros: Readily available torque (I lit the tires up in 2nd - salesman not so happy)
Cons: Interior is way below the level of the Camaro in terms of fit & finish and space. Almost lost a finger thinking the hood had the same support as the Camaro. It doesn't. Basic (non Brembo brakes) were under whelming. Engine bay not as well laid out as Camaro. Master cylinder showed plastic stress marks.

The platform is powerful with good torque/HP with a basic "car" wrapped around it. My son still likes it better than the Camaro. ;-(

I personally think brand loyalty is a bit silly. If ford made a Mustang that I liked better, I'd buy it. Not much sentiment in "American" cars anymore either considering most foreign cars are made here too.

Mustang's interior below the level of fit and finish in the Camaro? LMAO! The Camaro's interior is terrible. You have to be joking right now. Please tell me you're not serious.

I will agree with you on the brakes. I'd never get a GT without the track pack.

The Camaro interior is nicer than the Mustang. It's like we live in a parallel universe today. My old Explorer had way better plastic than my GM cars. not anymore.

Look at this! Look at that steering wheel. Ugly.
