My almost 8 month old lab mix rescue Sox. First one is right after we got her, and second one is a little more recent. She's already up to 70 pounds and still growing like a weed.

Autumn & Wylee. Autumn will turn 11 years old on the 15th. Still going strong. Wylee is only 2 1/2 years old and is a hand full. lol Both are rescues.

About twenty years ago I lost my last dog, Tanqueray. She was an English setter/black lab mix. A rescue of sorts: we adopted her from a merchant marine that I'm sure was abusive to her. She was about six months old. The merchant marine named her. He drank a lot.

When we brought her in the house, she went from almost scared of everyone to deliriously happy.

Tang was about 17 when she died. At about 15 years old she had troubles with her hindquarters and was having accidents. Our vet put her on a steroid regimen. She was old and we had nothing to lose. Tang became happy and pain free for the last year and a half of her life. No more accidents until the very end. No more whimpering in pain when we moved her off of a mess she made, and when we cleaned her off. She walked ok and didn't look at us the way a sick or hurt dog does, the 'I need you to help me' look. Flipping dog makes me cry now talking about her.

I hope you can get something to help Gizmo

The 10 Commandments From a Dog's Perspective

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice and your tone. You only have to look at my tail.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it, and if it's cruel, it may affect me forever.

7. Please don't hit me. I can't hit back, but I can bite and scratch, and I really don't ever want to do that

8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right foods or I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak. It may be I am just dog-tired.

9. Take care of me when I get old. You too will grow old and may also need love, care, comfort, and attention.

10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch" or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, regardless of what you do, I will always love you.
