I agree with the crappy parenting thing. As far as needing religion to be a good person youre right. I wasn't a good person. I was involed with gangs, drugs, completely on the wrong track. Then I met my wife and all that stuff was behind me. She went to Church without me for a long time and I would go every now and then to make her happy. Everytime I went, the sermon was about me and my sins. It was God working in my heart. It took me a few more years before I got saved but i realized these were my gifts from Him. i know now after 10 years of marriage and two daughters that He put her into my life so that I could know He was seeking me. And I'm sure I am not the only one who has a story like this, some just haven't figured it out yet. But the best part is He will accept you no matter what type of person you are. I don't want to force you or anyone to do anything. I don't want you out of OUR country. I just pray that God work in your hearts so that you can experience His mercy and grace. In my opinion religion needs to be in everything we do as people and a country. It is the only way to make the Godly inspired decisions that this Country of ours needs. I am in no way perfect, I am a sinner, but I work on trying to be better for the Lord, family, everyone else, then finally me. |

I dont want to offend any one here BUT I feel ALL religions were man made to divide and conquor and control the masses.
I do believe there is a "God" but NOT as the form we are led to believe. The people that started all this reliogious talk did so also to divert the TRUTH away from the TRUTH about "GOD" and our existence. I truly believe that we are on a verge of finding out everything. Just study ancient civilizations/ The Illuminati etc. etc. Let me just end by saying "We are NOT alone!"

![]() Most "christians" I know are the most hateful, hypocritical and judgemental people I have encountered. There are a few good ones but most just like to feel superior to everyone else. Confess on Sunday then spend the rest of the week feeling entitled to do everything Jesus said not to... People like to have their thinking done for them and organized religion suits this goal perfectly. We've turned into a nation of sheep. You can be spiritual without giving up your right to think for yourself. And also religion allows people to make up artifice in their head about heaven because we're the only species that can contemplate and even plan our own death, so if we make up a bunch of happy horses**t about going to paradise after we die, it makes the fear of death bearable.

I'll start by saying that while I am a deist, I am not a christian. I feel that no religious text is inherently better than any other religious text on the face of the earth because they were all written by humans. Thats not to say that they don't all contain some good advice on how to live.
That said, the "seperation of church and state" granted in the constitution that everybody refers to does not say anything prohibiting the government from showing anything religious. It merely states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" Meaning they won't make a church of America, or ban the practice of hinduism in the US. Printing the words "in god we trust" on a government building is not "making a law," nor is it "prohibiting the free exercise thereof." As stated before, words printed on a building are unlikely to prevent anybody from becoming an atheist, or a muslim, or any other religion, just as they are unlikely to make somebody become a christian. I understand the atheist point of view. A large portion of my family are atheists. A large portion of them are christians. But that doesn't mean that the government can't print in god we trust on its money and its buildings, or use "under god" in the pledge of allegiance. - X

What Xanthos is refering to is the 'Establishment Clause' One of the things we wanted from getting out from under English thumb was the right to worship. It was meant to keep the state out of the church. NOT the church out of the state.

to everyone, try to learn from one another and don't repeat history with thousands of young lives lost for nothing over religion-based wars.

I believe I have learned about it-- went to church my whole childhood, was confirmed and I also was very active in youth ministry where we did a lot of good for the poor and needy. All under the direction of the only TRUE christian I have ever met. A wonderful youth minister who taught what she preached. I've read the bible and the koran, and also Bertrand Russell. Mother liked going to church and father atheist. I was able to get a lot of life lessons from the church, but ultimately learned to use those lessons to develop as an adult while thinking and questioning as a non-believer.

I'm an Anti-theist. I can't stand religion of any kind. I wish it were eradicated off the face of this earth. It's a disease that takes advantage of the disenfranchised and in most cases, the most uneducated and superstitious. However, is this the place to be having this discussion? Is this not a Camaro-car Forum? If you want an in depth discussion on atheism and religion, may I suggest the following sites?:
http://debunkingchristianity.blogspot.com/ http://www.samharris.org/forum/ http://richarddawkins.net/forum/ I come here because I want to talk cars, not politics, religion, and all the other hot topic buttons. |
