My roommate in college had a 1966 Dodge Coronet with a fully built 426 Hemi. It was scary fast, especially with the drum brakes.

That Pure Stock Bee is owned and run by none other than Dave Dudek, a many time NHRA/F.A.S.T./Pure Stock champion with Hemi experience out the wazoo. The Bee is fully dialed in as a Pure Stock racer.

Here's a clip of the same LS6 being trounced by a '69 COPO Camaro:

An off weekend for a drag-prepped LS6? Or it's not up to the fight, prep-wise? It's a 4-speed manual, which hampers 60' times on stock F70X15s...and only traps @ 115 mph.

How did they get those times with those ancient looking skinny tires?

Take a look at the Hemi Bee as it sits on the line, and then launches. It's dialed in for its intended purpose, and runs 11.68 @ 122+ mph. That's haulin' on F70s! That's 2 seconds quicker than test times from back in the day!!

Look up the F.A.S.T series -- it is really impressive for the limitations they have to deal with.

Fast Appearing Stock Tires is basically Pure Stock taken to another level with engine mods acceptable "as long as it looks stock-appearing". Same number of carbs, factory part-numbered block and heads etc. Inside the engine? Over 500 cu.in. is not unheard of...!!

Dave Dudek's FAST-legal '69 Hemi 'Runner is even quicker than the Bee...9.98!!

Folks, in all these cases (and particularly with Dudek's cars), these cars running really great times are PREPPED! Don't let the words "Pure Stock" fool you...

Some F.A.S.T. time trials. An interesting mix of cars, including Dudek's 'Runner and Pennington's L88, both running mid-10's!

Any time you can run 130+ mph in the 1/4, you're making serious power on G70/G60 belted tires...

For more info, and some jaw-dropping times, see this: http://www.fastraces.org/
