Just had a rental car mustang for a week.
Man is that thing a piece. The body of the car is the only thing worth looking at, that and the gauges which i think aren't TOO bad but wow that thing was bad. Now let me start by saying this thing was a V6 HP in the mid 200's but it still rang up a 20,000K+ price tag. I was at out in Georgia, so the Car did see its share of abandoned dirt roads at 60mph sliding all over the place. it handles better than i expected out of the car... but the front hood is so large it makes the whole car front heavy and makes that back end move around on high speed/sliding turns. ( there were ALOT of abandoned roads. ) now i know this was the V6 but its structurally identical to the GT minus 50 hp. The Camaro should blow this thing away with both barrels.

Actually there are some differences between the GT and the V6.. The GT rides a whole lot better..The GT's have rear sway bars which make the ride smoother and better at turns at high speeds..GT's are equipped with quadrashock suspension, as Ford calls it. Horizontal shocks in addition to verticals. 8.8" Rear end with traction lok as opposed to the 7.5" open diff on the V6's as well. The automatics use the 4r70w and the manuals use either the T-5 or T-45 (can't remember which). The 2001.5-current GT 5spd's use the TR3650. In the middle of 2001, Ford started to put the TR 3650 5spd transmission into the GT's, but the V6's retained the 5spd that they have had since '99.
Differences between the GT/ V6 Leather Interior(diff design) Speedometer(gts are higher) Hood/Side Scoops Fog Lights Rims Tranny(if 5speed) Badging Rear End and Tlok Breaks are the same Spoilers are the same Gts have a rear sway bar and diff rear shocks(quadrashock) Springs are the same Exhaust/Rear Bumper |

most of the stuff you just said has nothing to do with how they drive.
???? those are minor minor differences. |

ive driven a GT, one of my best friends has one and he has it supped up a bit. i actually liked the driving on the V6 better due to the fact that its lighter. it made the handling and performance moves easier. i mean the thing couldn't spin the wheels if its life depended on it but id rather take that thing around a turn than a GT which needs the extra support to help even out the extra weight.

Actually, the rear sway bar will address a good portion of your handling issues.

I've driven Mustang's of all different kinds and model years my whole life. I'm quite sure the base V6 Camaro will handle much differently vs the base V8 Camaro as well around a track or curvy road at high speeds. Quote:

I think this brings up a good discussion of what differences besides engine we'll see between our V6 and base V8 models. Now GM officials have been quick to point out how well the V6 model will handle and they have been really talking it up. So do you think there will be as big of a gap between our V6 and base V8 as the base and GT Mustangs?

Hertz in Ft.Lauderdale is renting Corvette Convertibles for $229 a day or $899 per week. I'm thinking about it...I'd take it real easy and be very gentle
