Ya but I think you should be in the 4th gen section. Ok, how hot are you talking about? Red line? If your car gets to that point then you should not be driving it at all. Next, we need to determin why it gets hot. First, have you checked or put in a new thermostat? Second, are the fans working? Third, have you opened the radiator cap to see if the radiator is full of sludge? Fourth, and lastly, do you have fluid coming out of the tail pipes? Oil in the water? And check the oil dipstick. If its milky white the you could have a blown head gasket. Any one of these things will cause your car to over heat. Good luck!

Ok then we need to look at your radiator. Try a flush and change out your thermostat.

When you say shuts off, do you mean the engine stalls?

That's the impression I got too. I hope not or the damage has been done....maybe.

A stall is when you are driving and the engine dies. We are trying to determine what is actually happening. Answer these:

What do you mean by it turns off? Please describe

Can you restart it?

When you are driving it, does it run smooth when cold and then get very rough as it warms up?

Is your radiator full of fluid? (ONLY OPEN WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD)

Check your oil dipstick and see if you have oil?

Sounds to me like a few possibilities:

-Fan is not turning on. This will trip the ECU to turn off when it gets above 225 I think.
-O2 sensor is bad causing it to run very lean when hot
-Split vacuum line. You need to check all of them.
-Someone reran the fuel lines and they are causing a vapor lock

I had this happening in an old Chevy 3100 I did a Chevy 350 swap on. I ran the fuel line too close to the headers and it was causing the gas to turn to vapor in the line before it got to the carb. It would run horribly. Moved the line and wrapped it and it runs perfectly now.

My son had this same issue in an 1985 Nissan 300 zx he rebuilt. He ended up having a split vacuum line which was to provide vacuum when the engine got hot to lean the fuel mix down. The lack of vacuum caused the engine to run way to rich when hot and caused it to stall.
