Because this is what happens when GM decides to do bold things with trucks:

As interesting as each idea may have been, none of them ever seemed to sell. Consequently, they are probably a little gun-shy right now.

Yes, who the heck keeps approving the bad ideas and vetoing the good ones? The first 2, well, just look at them, instant failures. 3 could have been good, but the first year wimpy 53 and most of all, the high price killed it. They should have kept the design, made it a hardtop, put the LS2 in tfrom the begininng, ask around 30k and they would have had not only a proper SVT Lightning competitor which people really wanted at the time, but i am sure a sales hit. 4 is pretty simple too, High price for what a couple MPG gain only?

At the same time i can kind of see GM letting Dodge be the one to test the water while they set back and see if the diesel 1500s actually catch on. if they do, I would say we will be seeing them Chevy in Dodge in 1 to 2 model years max. While we are at it, and totally off topic, why doesn't GM do ahead and throw the 6.2 V8 in the RC/SWB Sierra at least

Point taken, though I consider those to be different. Buyers are actually asking for the diesel, unlike a convertible SUV, a cut corners at every turn CUV platform with a body that looks like fat ass, a "sporty" two seater built on a truck frame, or a hybrid work truck that costs over $50k. I don't recall anyone asking for those.
