The only problem is that the vin doesn't match the title. Is there a way we can work around this?

He's not going to hold on to it that long. He told us we have until the end of the week to decide what to do. Thanks for the advice though..

If I'm not mistaken, if another number is found that can verify the cars identity all is good but the stamped # found by the op is different than what's on the title, to me, this is a red flag. This is why I would suggest the car be tagged BEFORE it's purchase.

We're still looking into finding that frame number.

You and the seller go to DMV with these forms after the cowl vin is verified by a LEO.

One thing is clear, this car is not X8SW706414 so the title he has is worthless.

Does he have other buyers lined up? The reason I ask is I'm not sure how he expects to ever sell the car if every potential buyer is going to have the same issues you're going through, unless they plan on not registering it.

Without a title, this car can only be parted out. Too nice to do that to it.

Both vins show no Florida records. Should be easy to get a duplicate title.

It's a bummer to see this. It's easier to get around not having a title as long as the car was registered at some point but not having numbers is a different story.

He did. But he told us he found a dealership that doesn't really anything in order to take the car off his hands. He said he'll sell it to them if it doesn't work out.

Just got off the phone with my dad. We're going to try to get a cop out there ASAP to see what vin he can find. If it's the 706, we'll buy the car. If it's the 707, we're going to buy a '59 Ranger from the sellers friend.

Me too.

But if we don't, we aren't gonna stop here when it comes to classic cars. We'll find another one.

Just any cop may not work out. You need a cop who is an auto theft investigator to get the job done right.
Patrol cops are generalists and know nothing about verifying secondary VIN's

I guess I should've been more specific. We have a friend who's a retired cop and we were going to see if he has any connections.
