Why did Chevy "destroy" the Impala brand? For the same reason Ford killed the Crown Victoria. "Impala" in the 90s was little more than a hotter engine and maybe some springs, sway bars, and larger wheels bolted to a Caprice....much like the Mercury Marauder was a few years later. If anything, the 90s version was milking the name more than the current (2014) one is. If the 90s Impalas where called the Impala, would anyone really car about them?

I think they might have skipped the LS5 for some reason.
LS1 was the 5.7 that went into Camaros, Firebirds, and Corvettes. LS2 was the 6.0 for the Corvette and GTO LS3 is the 6.2 in the Camaro & Corvette LS4 was the 5.3 in the 2005-2008 Grand Prix GXP, Impala SS, and Monte Carlo SS LS6 was the high output LS1 for the C5 Z06 LS7 is the 7.0 for the C6 Z06 & Camaro Z28 LS9 is the supercharged 6.2 for the ZR1 come to think of it, they skipped the LS8 as well. Though I heard a few years ago that it may have been intended for a supercharged 6.2 for use in SUVs, possibly as something like an Escalade-V or some such craziness.

And I wouldn't want a typical two door which is a small car with two doors. I would go buy a 350z or any other coupe that's what the vette is for . With these new muscle cars you still get to have space and 2 doors

You guys do realize that it is just a name, right? Maybe What some of you want is to retire a name and never reuse it when changing to new platforms/ models. This entire thread is absurd to me.

Well OK friends, do you guys think if GM made the camaro like the impala fwd that it would sell more than the mustang? Be honest
and the name is what help stuff sell. Just like know a lot of people that won't buy the Challenger but would buy the cuda if they come out.

i think LX would have been good too. It's been used sparingly by GM for FWD engines before so it wouldn't be so recognizable to sports car enthusiasts.
I agree. I think in another 2-4 generations once lighter weight steel, aluminum, carbon fiber start trickling down we could see a difference. Not to mention electric motors aiding performance in conjunction with gas motors. Along with more forged parts leading to thinner amounts of material being needed. Theres still quite a bit that can be done I believe, Even if cars become more autonomous I think safety features could be streamlined, in particular the pedestrian safety features.
