Last night I pulled 18 minutes, 18.27 seconds. Pretty solid effort. I'm about 45 seconds off the best time at our gym.
Ever consider doing crossfit?

Do you use a belt for your back when doing the squats?

A friend of mine is a crossfit trainer. We argue all the time. There are some elements of crossfit that are helpful to training. Then there are some that are complete nonsense. One of his routines is 500 burpees for time.... How in the blue hell does doing 500 of anything provide any positive results for anything? Pointless. The goal of crossfit, according to him, is to be an Olympic-lifting, sprinter-gymnast. Yes, that's all nice. But I still see a lack of consistent cardio in there.

Crossfit is too much of a cult for me. Nowadays, everyone calls interval lifting a "crossfit routine" as if they invented the wheel. Being pushed to the brink of death just to say you did it does not equate to a healthy workout.

This is one of the biggest gripes I hear, but, thankfully this behavior isn't widespread. It's dependent on who your trainer is and how they program. Por ejemplo-The CrossFit gym I work out in- CrossFit 908 - (notice how I don't call it a "box," nor do I "WOD" there) has a very good balance of heavy lifting and conditioning. The owner/programmer of my gym is also a Games-level athlete, competing at the Games before CF blew up and qualifying at the regional level the last two years as well. Many of the girls can squat and deadlift in the 200s, a few in the 300+ zone as well. A few guys with 500+lb pulls and crazy big motors when it comes to conditioning. We also tend to stay away from high-rep Olympic lifts, and form >> workout times.

Sadly, because of its huge market, you'll get some bad gyms and coaches..but the good ones tend to be quite obvious.

Well, just finished workout #2 5 min ago. That makes 8 hrs in the last 4 days. Only one tomorrow. I home brew, so i have to do this!

Plus my son is getting to where he is scaring me. Here he is winning his last indoor track meet. He is a senior at the AF Academy. He also was inside LB for the Falcons.

This toss was 55ft 5 inches. It cost me an AR-15

If he breaks the Academy discus record of 183 and some change its gonna cost me another one!

Good to know. Yea, my buddy calls his affiliation a "box". I roll my eyes every time.

To his defense, he does preach form over time. I just think some of the "sets" and WODs are laughably stupid and are just asking for injury.

I wouldn't call him a bad trainer, just way overzealous. He battled some demons with addictions, and I feel like "crossfit" is his new addiction to some degree, which is why he overworks himself and others.

It is a good way to learn powerlifting if you have a solid trainer.

I agree with you %100.Helpful exercises yes, The five hundred burpees is just ridiculous. I stick to what I know is working for me. Not too big on cardio but since the weather will be changing here. I should get on the hamster wheel soon; be back to running ten km in no time.
