Koenigsegg Developing Cam-less Valve System
I foresee V8's that can turn 15,000 rpm and get 35mpg highway in our future. What sort of benefits do you see the automotive industry experiencing as a result of this technology?

If it is anything like DCT it will take 30 years before we see it in anything we want it in...

I have a magazine from the early 90's about a guy who developed a cam less valveless head and spun over 10,000rpm on a stock 5.0 bottom end.

Cam less and valve less sounds like a two-stroke engine.

Koenigsegg is doing a lot of really cool work. This kind of stuff is what really interests me. McLaren is another company doing some really cutting edge development.

Lot's of tech like that has been looked at. None of it ends up in production because it adds nothing but cost.
That system has many flaws I can see off the bat. First he talks about the space savings of the size of the head, an inch in height and 2 inches in length. Whoop dee doo, what about the GIANT STEEL AIR TANK. You are adding all that complexity (acutator, air pump, air lines, tank and some sort of timing system, to replace this: ![]() I can't see it running in any sort of performance application. Did you see the example running on the bench, that was about a 1/4" of valve lift. On a tiny valve. You'd need massive air pressure to operate a large valve at high lifts and be able to hold it seated against combustion pressures.

He did say that with just a retrofit of the existing motor they were getting 30% better kpg with almost two years and 60k km of use.

Also you are talking to a guy who in all reality puts so much effort into his product that "profits" take a second seat to what he offers. Old School is great, But the way the system is set up to allow it to stay open for more time comparatively to a cam shaft is ingenious.
