What to do when your dealer is a *******

I read a lot of discussions on dealers giving people here a bad experience. Here are some brief examples:
  • no order number for weeks on end after putting down a deposit
  • terrible service for basic maintenance
  • doesn't know anything about Camaros despite selling them
  • generally disrespectful
  • unwilling to provide warranty work
  • bad body work or paint work
  • damages your car then tries to tell you it came that way

I'm sure there are plenty more examples, but the concept is that any dealer who does these things is a bad place to do business. What should you do?

Find another dealer.

It's not that hard. Stop paying some idiot to not treat you right! It's not that hard to find another dealer and do business there. Every dealer is different, and somewhere out there you're going to find a hard-working, responsible person with whom you can do business.

While you're at the good dealer, call GM Customer Service and complain about how sketchy your old dealer is. Compliment your current dealer. Be sure to fill out any surveys as accurately and honestly as you can for everyone. This helps GM know who sucks and who doesn't suck. That way, when they're throwing reward money at these guys for hitting sales and customer service milestones, you've made sure to help the guy that isn't getting enough credit, and you've hurt the guy that's giving you crappy service.

If you're going to give your hard-earned money to someone, then they need to earn it. Stop doing business with sketchy dealers. It makes me nauseous to read some of these bad experience posts, and my heart goes out to you guys for the trouble you post on here. Sadly, too many good people go to those businesses, and they wouldn't even be there if people made the good choice to go find someone better.

Yeah wish it was that easy,I tried doing that with one car I owned several years ago and went through several dealers trying to find one competent enough to perform simple service, then they seem to have a problem if you didn't buy the car from them in the first place. And since they are franchised dealers there is very little that can be done, they really don't seem to care after they get their money from the sale,I think they realize they all offer about the same quality of service and know if you go somewhere else another customer will walk in while your walking out,I know crappy dealerships that are still in business 30 years later the only thing that changed was their location.

That can be easier said than done when you live in an area that doesn't have more than one dealer without driving two hours away.
