True, however, the constitution does not promise us the right to drive car. And specific designation does not change that more people are killed each year by cars than by guns, and that's including the vast majority of gun deaths from suicide. And most mass killings are done with fire or a weapon other than firearms. So, I would still like to keep my right to have a gun.

It's like this: More people die in car accidents than plane travel, but when a plane crashes, humans react with horror because of the drama. A large group of people are killed in a very dramatic fashion triggering our fear.
Similarly gun deaths in general do not trigger fear, but a large number of people killed in dramatic fashion does. Banning the sale of large capacity magazines will work for this reason: those who already have them will treasure them and protect them because they know if they lose them, they can't get them any more. Therefore crazy people who commit these senseless mass murders are highly unlikely to get them. Professional criminals do not commit senseless murders because it's bad for business, only crazy people do, and crazy people don't have the resources to obtain banned items. I think it's silly to ban assault rifles, but it does make sense to limit their sale, improve background checks and ban large capacity magazines.

I support the 2nd amendment. A lot of Europeans and people from other countries like to criticize America for this "paranoid" law, but the fact of the matter is:
America's freedom protects the rest of the world from going under. When America started removing freedoms from Americans under the Homeland Security banner, other countries followed suit like Britain and Australia and countries who had already removed these freedoms (eg. Singapore) used America's actions to justify their own oppressive laws. If America were to devolve into a dictatorship, it could very well trigger the collapse of democracy in many other nations. Many nations enjoy the safety and sound government because of the buffer that is American freedom. However, the fact of the matter is, against an oppressive American government and the world's most powerful army, Assault rifles are merely a small deterrant and only useful for guerilla warfare. The US Army has access to infrared targetting drones and robots. Large capacity magazines are useless in these situations because the key to survival in this situation are one shot stealth kills, in other words sniper rifles. The Russian army repelled the Germans from Stalingrad in this manner.

I can't tell if this thread is serious or being sarcastic. If it is being serious, then anything can be used as a weapon, even ourselves. So we should all be regulated and watched over by the government....oh wait... |

I honestly can't understand why people want us to be and act the country that our forefathers fought so hard to break away from all those years ago because they were tired of being controlled. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would be deeply sickened by what is going on in this country today. I really fear for what the future brings for our kids and their kids.

There are 8,155 threads in this section of the forum alone. Yet you choose to use this single thread to pipe up and get all defensive?
