This article seems to be the best one yet on the subject. Its from a toyota insider, their 'fbodfather'

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

From what I understand, it is neither supra nor sti, and is not aimed and anything close to the evo x. It is the 'spiritual successor' to the old AE86, aimed at the same market as the Genesis coupe (the 2.0T model, not thev6). This is supposed to be a lightweight, canyon carving, initial d fanboy's wet dream. So basically.... I'm looking forward to it. Though I did read an article a while back that it was canned a few weeks after nissan killed off the new 240sx... Guess toyota/subaru changed their minds...?

That was a speculative article. Someone working on the project just came out in the last month and said they were still going to carry on with it, and there MIGHT be an STi version.

Hmmm... think about nabbing an STI turbo and sticking it on that little DI motor..... in a 2600lb car (it would be so awesome if they actually met that weight goal)

I'm still bummed Nissan canned the 240SX. I trust Nissan to make a competent performance car more than Toyota, Hyundai, and to some extent Subaru. Look at the 370Z, and the GT-R if you ignore the trannies that explode if you touch the wrong switch.

Oh most definitely, but maybe this will motivate them a bit

Id say Nissan has good engineers, but I lost alot of faith with them over how they handled the GTR. They had the chance to lay the ultimate smack down of track cars, but instead the greedy execs running the show have turned it into the laughing stock of the automotive world.

I trust Subaru more than any other Japanese car company on these types of things. Yes the Evo has always done its job very well, so Mitsu deserves their kudos as well, but when it all goes down I'd rather be in an STi than an Evo.

Hate to break this, but if the car does turn into an STi variant, their is no way its going to stay at under 2900lbs. The 300/300 boxer engine from the STi line is too much for that car without some sort of reinforcement. They put the more powerful engine in there and you'll see the weight grow. Even so it'd end up looking like an RX-8 with a 300hp engine.... mmmmmm....
