Los Angeles auto show.. how depressing.
I have to say, NOTHING at the auto show really grabbed me.. rather depressing.
My wife is about due for a new car, we went looking to see what interested her. her last two vehicles were a 1997 Camry and a 2007 Camry Hybrid, since meeting and marrying me she has gone to tons of car shows and events, and has lost the "a car is a mode of transportation" mentality, and is genuinely interested in a vehicle that excites her and might be fun to own, drive, and even mod. She really didn't find anything she liked, she felt the current line up of Toyota's (she has had two so of course this was where she looked first) were overly complicated and boring. She is not much of a techy, and one of her biggest complaints on most vehicle is they are two busy with buttons and gizmos. She likes the Camaro because overall it is simple, not a lot of gadgets, however she wants, and we need a sedan. The only thing that kinda caught her eye was the new Impala, (as when we met I had a 2002 Impala LS) and the Audi A6 (out of our desired price range). Other than that, even I was greatly disappointed at what I saw, I love the technology and gadgets and gizmos, but I found nothing that integrated them into an exciting car, the ones with the great toys had designs that were boring as hell (Lexus, Infinity, BMW, MBZ, etc) and the ones that had somewhat exciting designs, like the new Caddy's, Lincoln, Audi, Chrysler, were way behind on the technology and overpriced for the limited technology they do offer.. Very disappointing over all. oh yeah, most of the concept cars were pretty cool though..

I hear ya, I have been going to the SF Auto Show for decades. I never missed it and it was easy to attend since it was always during Thanksgiving week.
I loved sitting in all the new cars and bringing home a bagful of brochures. This is the first year I didn't go. Why? Like you, I found modern designs boring, all are shaped like huge vitamin pills. There are no longer any unique designs, everyone has succumbed to mpg, emissions, Green tech, safety, hybrid, manure-methane-lithium power and techno-gizmo overload. Performance is slipping away due to government meddling. The last car I recall admiring isn't made anymore. That was the Pontiac G8 GT. The Challenger still looks great though. I don't want a car that is iPhone ready. Hold on to your camaro, the future looks bleak. |

Find a used G8 GT. that's a beautiful car. If you can afford it. Get a C63 AMG (my next car) but the A6 sounds appealing
