I love my CZ's too. I have an SP01, and a polished stainless 75B pimp gun.
They just fit, and feel right. Got rid of all my Beretta's. I was thinking of trading the SP01 for a Shadow, but I like the tritium sights.

Question - is making modifications to the lower receiver of an AR-15 illegal? Like machining metal off in places?
Clarification - this machining will not affect how the gun fires (won't make it automatic, etc)!!

I'm not a lawyer but I believe it is illegal to drill the auto sear pin hole and destroy the serial number. Other than that I can't think of anything else.

Machining anything that has to do with making the weapon into an auto such as the sear pin whole is Ilegal. Other than that your good to go. It is also not required to have a serial number as it does not need to be registered, however if the weapon was already voluntarily registered then the serial number needs to remain. I am not a lawyer so it would be wise to double check my statements with your local ATF.

You can do whatever you want as long as you don't affect it's function by making it fire more than one round per trigger pull. You also can't deface a factory serial number. If you buy an 80% lower and complete it yourself, you do not need to have a serial number on it or you can give it a custom number as you are the manufacturer when you complete it. You cannot, legally, make an 80% lower into a full auto either without special licensing such as being an 07 SOT holder.

Per ATF laws AR-15 lowers MUST be registered with the ATF at the time it is purchased from a FFL holder. A AR-15 lower must be treated identically to a rifle or handgun in this regard. The only exception to this is if you purchase a blank lower that did not go through the final machining process of the manufacturer. They look like this. ![]() After you complete the lower you do not have to register it as long as it remains under your ownership. If the gun passes down to a son (like after you pass away), or is intended to be traded or sold then you are required to put a serial number on it and register the lower. |

I always wanted to experiment with a steel barreled/steel projectile potato gun

I always figured it would put it in the AOW class once you used a rifled steel barrel and projectiles like a 12ga. slug, for instance.
