Ford Truck for a tow/winter vehicle
So As winter is slowly approaching I have been toying with the idea of buying a used Truck.
I traded in my 2010 silverado for the camaro and obvioulsy need something.... Or Blizzaks.... I wanted to wait until next summer to purchase a truck so that I could tow a boat but since this winter will most likely not be like last winter I will need to purchase one sooner. I am looking in the 15k range. I have seen some very nice 2005,2006 with lower miles ~75 to 100k Diesel F250s. at this range... Anyone on here own one of these and/or would you guys shun me if i got one? Jk on that last part haha. any comments are welcome |

I'd get an f150. Unless u need the 250 to tow with.
And if you are getting the 6.0 diesel, make sure it's stock with no tuner..... |

I would say get a f250 or 350 turbo diesel. I think the 7.3 PS is an awesome engine. I tow m car with it all the time with no issues. I know the 6.0 Ford motors got good revues, but don't have personal experience.

This is my intention is to get a turbo diesel as they will ultimately just run longer with less maintenance. Gas engines of this era just go kaput to easily... . |

You don't want a 6.0 Ford unless you have a lot of money to spend on repairs. They are known for head gasket problems and turbo oiling issues. EGR delete kits are suppose to help with the head gasket problems ,but it hasn't saved them all. Also a major repair to one requires that the entire cab, fenders and front end be removed. If you don't need to pull heavy loads, I would stay away from diesels in general. Even the reliable ones cost a lot more to own than a gas motor. I wouldn't worry about longevity. The truck will be worn out before the motor in a gas truck or a diesel. I own diesels for business, and I wouldn't if I didn't need to pull and haul heavy loads. My gas trucks cost a lot less to own overall.

The superdutys of 05-07 are good trucks. Our company has had 4 of them over the years (F350's SRW), they have pretty good ride, lots of room in the cab etc. But I would definitly be cautious of the 6.0L, they have good towing power but have been prone to head gasket failures, and injector problems. We had one break a tip of an injector off and rattle around the cylinder
and I've talked to many others with similar problems (but some were also abused). Unless you a good history on the truck I wouldn't go 6.0L.
