Same here Jeanette!! Thanks for coming over, and helping with the dinner.
We all really enjoyed your company, and look forward to when we can meet up again.

We left Auburn early this morning, and headed to Mt. St. Helens. There is some more beautiful scenery that I'm glad we took the time to see. After that, we passed on driving along the Columbia River, and headed straight to Tilamook. We toured the cheese factory, (which left us a little disappointed.) It was late in the day, and only the packaging machine was running.

We went out to the museum south of town, which was closed, but did snap a couple of pictures.

We finally got headed south along the coast on 101, and I had a pretty good time with that. We booked a room in North Bend, OR., and had to push kind of hard, as even my wife didn't want to have the car on that road after dark. (I don't think she had as much fun as I, but she didn't say a word. She is still talking to me tonight, so it's all good.

I'll probably have to take it a little easier tomorrow. We plan on ending up at my sister's place in Petaluma, CA. sometime tomorrow. See what we can on the way south, and get there when we do.

I'm glad the clouds parted for you to see Mount Saint Helens - I was worried you might not get a good view.... Great pic of the Camaro with the mountain! Someone should photoshop a plume of ash into it for you.

LOL Yeah, it was another great day. Weather was good, and most places weren't very busy. we don't care for the big crowds.

We're trying to decide what to see on thee way down to Petaluma, and hopefully, I'll have an update tonight.

We slept in this morning, and left north Bend around 9:30.

Stayed on Rte. 101 all day, and saw a lot of wonderful scenery.

A great view of the coast line, a bunch of BIG trees, and a few elk near the ocean.

Spending the night in Fortuna, CA.

Probably going to run south on Rte. 1, along the ocean.

We should get to Petaluma tomorrow afternoon, and hang out with my sister for a day or two.

Here are a few from today, and added more to this....

Rolled south today, from Fortuna, CA, on Rte. 101, to Leggett, CA., and headed west to the coast.

I had a blast on the 20 some mile stretch, but Sheree just about didn't make it. the twisting & turning got her so carsick, she claims I was trying to do her in. :(

We drove along the coast, which was a lot smoother, and we got some nice pictures there.

We got down to Albion, and decided to get back on the 101, and make up some time. That stretch of road wasn't much better than the trip to the coast, but Sheree did hold up better. The road was in really bad shape, so that kept me slowed down a little. This route sent us right through some nice wine country, and we got to see some nice forest too.

Finally got to Petaluma, and went to Dinner at Dinucci's in Valley Ford, CA. Back to Petaluma for ice cream at Lala's Creamery. Mmm, mmm good!

Down for the night. Boat ride on the Petaluma River tomorrow, and Safari West tour planned for Monday.

A nice relaxing day in Petaluma. I don't remember the last day I didn't drive!!
My sister hauled us around town.

Started off with breakfast at the 2-Niner Diner at the Petaluma Municipal Airport.

We then just kind of wandered around town, and did some grocery shopping.

My sister's friend took us out on the Petaluma River, and we got to see a large group of boats leaving town.

Heading down to San Francisco in the morning, to see some sights down there.

This was at the airport..........

A busy day, running around San Francisco. My sister guided us all around town, taking backstreets & shortcuts to everywhere we went.

First thing on the agenda was a trip down Lombard St.

We had lunch at The Ramp, down on the waterfront, and then spent the afternoon, visiting the California Academy of Science. Some pretty cool stuff there.

The weather was beautiful, and clear, so we stopped, both on the way into town, and on the way out, to get some pictures of the big bridge.

Another relaxing day, just kind of hanging around.

I actually went to AAA, and picked up "paper" maps, now that we're over 1/2 way through our journey. they have a pretty good printout of all of the things to see along Rte. 66, and I want to check out some of them along the way.

We were sitting around this morning, humming "Willin'" by Little Feat, that mentions Tucomcari, and "Take It Easy" by the Eagles, so we will be "Standin' on a Corner in Winslow, Arizona," as I see tonight, they actually have a park there.

This afternoon, we visited

http://www.safariwest.com/

and had a good time, touring the privately owned wildlife preserve.
Our tour guide, Karen, did a great job of explaining everything that we saw.

We will be leaving Petaluma in the morning, headed over to Yosemite NP. Looks like the highest altitudes that we will be driving in yet.

Look for an update tomorrow night.

Coming out the the west coast? your're going to have a great time out here. Close to Petaluma, I would consider checking out Bodega Bay, its literally on the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean and an old small fishing town; extremely beautiful! If you are bringing the camaro and are into racing, Infineon Raceway is about 15 mins from Petaluma and drag races are on Wednesday nights.

There is San Francisco, which is a tourist type place, lots of cool things to check out:
Golden Gate Bridge
Fisherman's Wharf
Lombard Street
Seal Beach
Ocean Beach
Treasure Island (good place to take photos as it was an old military base)

If you are into Wine Tasting, Napa Valley has some of the best wineries on the West Coast. There are a lot within a 30 min drive of Petaluma.

If you're into lakes, Clear Lake is about a 1-2 hour drive from San Francisco; theres lots of open water, you can rent boats, jet skis, house boats. One of the nicer lakes in the area.

If you decide to head down to SoCal, theres a lot down there, but if you have the time I would recommend taking Hwy down. It takes a lot longer than taking I-5 straight down, but its an absolutely scenic drive.

Pretty late so thats all I can think of off the top of my head!

Looks like you're still having great weather, and seeing some beautiful sights. I hope you enjoyed the visit with your sis - it looks like she gave you a great tour.
Keep posting up the gorgeous pics - you have to try to get one with the Camaro and El Capitain while you're in Yosemite

Don't forget to call HotRodSally when you get near Vegas!

Thanks for the suggestions. We've already covered a few of them, but I guess we'll just have to leave some of these things for the next trip. We need to keep rolling east. Too much to see between here & home yet.

We had a great time Jeanette. Like Chuck in Seattle, she gave us kind of a "behind the scenes" tour of the city.

will I know what 'El Capitan' is when I get there?

We will be sure to get in touch with HotRodSally when we get close. Looks like we will be spending a night close to there.

Thanks, Gary.
