Keto will work! Just don't stay on it for very long
And make sure you read a lot so you do it right. That stubborn fat will go away. We promise lol I'll try to get a pick up tomorrow.

There is no argument that Keto diets reduce fat, they are just not for everyone and not for every stage of fat loss. If your diet has been clean and you are exercising a couple of weeks of a Keto diet or a lower carb diet may be useful. Keto diets usually range from about 30 gr carbs to 70gr carbs daily, I would suggest you start with the upper range until you see how it affects you, some tolerate them well others don't. If your diet hasn't been clean and your caloric intake isn't on par then I would get that right first.

Well Ruby, you're lookin' good. Since you stepped up with your photo's I figure I'd add mine and show the younger crowd how us slightly older folks do it LOL
Here I am at 171. You can see in my photo's the inbalances on my left side due to a bad bike crash, the injuries due hold me back slightly but it's the way it is. |

If the time needs to come down just a few days from now there's literally nothing that will make it happen(okay... maybe emergency liposuction) fitness-wise. Your friend can stop by a running store and buy some racing shoes. Dropping 8 oz. off of each foot can account for more than 10 seconds per mile. (edit: I just remembered this is a weight loss thread and that might be considered cheating.) 8+ minute miles are well within the aerobic exercise spectrum. To continue bringing the time down in the future all it takes is running 6 days/week and a gradual but consistent increase in speed and distance. Also recommend to avoid heelstriking, if that's being done. |

I completely understand why people used to do it. It does have an effect, it just doesn't improve your fitness for running longer distances.
If you run around with a heavy foot, your hip flexors and hamstrings have to work noticeably harder on lifting with each step. Once you're accustomed to it, you take the weights off and run some more, but your muscles are still using the extra fibers they had to recruit earlier. Ergo, you're going to put more power into every step and probably run faster, assuming it didn't tire you out too much. Running with weights is a legitimate training method for the short and fast stuff because those events are all about recruiting as much muscle as possible. (but still not ankle weights. They have vests and other weights you can wear around your thighs that won't shred your knees) The reason it doesn't make you a better long distance runner is because distance running isn't about power; It's about efficiency. Your body doesn't know what a pound is or what a mile is, it only knows how much blood it has to deliver to your muscles to keep them from dying. If you run with weights you'll either slow down to accommodate them, or run harder to maintain your normal speed, in which case the benefit won't be any better than simply running faster without the weights. |

Just to check the info I gave, it appears that there is much conflicting opinions on running with ankle weights, although there are studies that support the theory that running with ankle weights can help with speed, explosiveness, leg strength and endurance, there are also many studies that conclude the possability of injury out weighs the benefits so after reading enough of them I would now suggest following MINUS_Z28's advice and not running with ankle weights.

Snapped a quick cell pic this morning. I don't have a camera other than my phone, and nobody to take a picture of me, so you don't get many poses.
