Want to make NASCAR relevant?

GM has the Chevrolet SS coming. Dodge has the Charger. Ford has the Taurus SHO.

Run those actual stock cars with safety mods. People will identify more with the cars and NASCAR as a whole if they can go to their dealers and buy the exact same car.

Kick Toyota out, nobody will care anyways.

I watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup series pretty regularly but some things are annoying. It has become very political over the past 10 years or so. The obvious sponsor advertising tags are one example. Sometimes I wonder if I'm watching a car race or listening to a 3 hour long commercial.
I've been following the Grand Am series lately, especially the Continental Tire series. The GS class has production based Camaro's, Mustang's, Porsche's, etc.

Here are the Stevenson Motorsports Camaros:

I've been a fan forever, but I agree with the OP

"real cars with safety mods"...agree, but they can't be made safe enough.

Maybe a chassis as they are now with "real manufacturer sheet metal and bumper covers"

I enjoyed the race.

Compared to what else was on. Golf, Soccer, Basketball, Softball. <-- All will put you to sleep faster than NASCAR. Even 8 out of 10 physicians will prescribe Golf over Lunesta.

Interesting article, albeit not directly related to the topic at hand.

On topic, not a fan of NASCAR, and I don't think I could try and come up with any solutions to fix it without coming across as cynical about the United States' mentality about cars as a whole.

If I want to take a Sunday nap, I just put the nascar race on the television. I used to watch it several years ago, but was just to monotenous and not entertaining enough to keep me interested or awake. Gave up on it.
I just check the standings every now and then to see how JR. is doing.

Or do what V8 Supercars in Australia does. The Commodores/Falcons in that series are nowhere near stock cars but they resemble their production counterparts very closely. There aren't coupes pretending to be production sedans, or RWD V8-powered cars pretending to be FWD family cars with at most a V6 engine.
