kids these days

So im driving down my street where the speed limit is 25 mph before you head onto the main road. Im getting close to the very end of the street where i see this kid maybe 11 or 12 run across the street to the other side so i figure i might as well drive a bit slower then 25 just to make sure nobody else is cutting across. Im now about 50 yrds from the end of the road and to my right is a line of cars parked so you cant really see what is behind them. Out of the blue this other kid probably his friend doesnt even look left nor right jumps right out in front of my car!!! im not talking like 50ft away either, im talking like 15-20ft!! I slammed the breaks to the floor as hard as i could with a few choice words as it was all happening. Luckily nobody got hurt/hit except for my lunch that was in a plastic bag that flew off the passenger seat. By the time the car stopped i was maybe 5-7ft from him, he was like a deer caught in headlights. REALLY!!! EVER HEARD OF LOOKING BOTH WAYS AND NOT ASSUMING THERE ARE NO ON COMING VEHICLES !!! . I was a bit shaken up due to the fact I almost hit a kid, but luckily thats not the case. Ok my venting is done. What a way to start my day

Yea, kids really don't pay attention and that's why we as drivers need to be extra careful for the good of the kids.
This is exactly why the 25 speed limit is enforced, Thanks for making sure not to go over the speed limit

But i have had similar instances going 20km/h because I know a kid is going to chase after a basketball and have had to slam the brakes at such a low speed, guessing thats like 10mph, too make sure I dont hit them.
Last thing I ever want to do is hit a kid

A family friend of mine was severly traumatized after killing a kid at no fault of his own. They ran out onto a busy highway and there was nothing he could do.

I can't even imagine that...

Just hope it scared him bad enough for him to realize how stupid it was and maybe will save his life later. I had a couple wearing black in the middle of the street after dark, with no street lights lit, who saw me before I saw them and still decided the middle of the street was safe enough even with a car coming around the curve. I almost hit them doing 25 as they were right in my A pillar as I rounded the corner. I can't believe the nerve some of these people have.

The problem isn't just kids. Even the old folks down here have no problem with just walking out in front of you. You have to extra careful if you are driving through a mall parking lot, because they don't believe in cross walks and expect you to stop on a dime and give them 9cents change ...

Feel good that you made the right choice to slow down and watch out.

HA! Last week, I was driving up my lane. I was in a reflective mood, thus driving about 15 MPH on my 25 MPH street. Up ahead, I could see a group of four or five kids, 8 to 12 years old, on bicycles, chatting in the middle of the street. Eventually, I got to their location, but did they move? No... they kept chatting it up amongst themselves. I stopped, and patiently waited... didn't even hit the horn, or cuss the 5hitheads out. Finally, they scooted apart creating a gap almost one Camaro wide.... but not quite enough for me to get through. The little budding a-holes sat there. So I sat there a few moments longer, before they finally struggled their lazy a55es a few more inches.

As I finally had the opportunity to continue, I slowly eased past them. That was when it all went to hell.

Some jackwad, presumably DAD, hollered at me at that very moment. "Hey, why don't you slow down?" he shouted.

Holy smokes, that pushed me right over the top. I stopped, and immediately pansydad rushed inside of his house. I went over, knocked on his door, so we could discuss the matter of my speed.... apparently, 15 MPH, and then patiently being stopped in the road for his little baby jackwads was too fast, and I wanted to discuss with him what HIS idea of "slow enough" is. But he wouldn't answer the door. I knocked... no, not yelling or getting crazy... I was very reserved and composed. But that idiot wouldn't answer the door.

Bottom line? Big A-holes breed little a-holes. Those who are not too bright, also breed little not too bright ones.

So when they get run over by another vehicle driven by somebody not as alert as you, or as willing to stop, or not as sober... and they get greased, well, it is just Darwinism at work.

I get this every now and then and pretty much have the exact same result. I wish there was a "snatch an idiot up by the back of his shirt" clause where they can't punish you for the "removal of public obstructions"

Wait they were kids and they were outside playing? What's wrong with them. Why weren't they glued to the TV.

I'm sure the parents would have blamed you if you had hit him.
