There should be requirements for repeat offenders that will allow the individual to look at things differently. Show them what could potentially happen if their actions are maintained. As it stands, you get cited, pay the fine and remain p/o'd without fully understanding the real hazards. Especially since you didn't kill anyone and you've been driving them roads for years. You're average citizen isn't exposed to the daily tragedies caused by drunk drivers or reckless op. of a motor vehicle, not like a cop or county coroner is. - so show 'em There's a wrecked car down in Kissimmee (or maybe it's Lakeland) that was put on display to make people more aware and to make them think twice about drinking & driving. That always makes me check my speed. Quote:

If you don't want to pay the fine, don't speed. If you don't want to put another's life at risk, don't speed. If you don't want to give an officer an excuse to bust your chops, then don't break the law. If you want to protect your self from the idiot who is content to continuously break the law, wear your seatbelt. The fine is supposed to be the rehabilitation. If a 1000 fine isn't enough to sway you then a flier won't do the trick either. It's not your city's responsibility to repeatedly educate you on how the laws work, or where the money goes, or why it's dangerous. That's why all of your city, county, state and federal government's information is public record - so you can figure it out on your own. The only other option is to use your vote at every level to change the law.

I detected a bit of sarcasm so I reread my post. I apologize for being condescending. I should have toned it down a bit.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

great post tag. i want to be a cop myself. my parents used some encouragement [cough cough]bribery to make sure i never grew up to be a speeder. my dad told me he would pay for insurance until i got my first moving violation...so needless to say i go 5 over where 15 over is acceptable. this poor boy appreciates his insurance! lol but seriously, great post. life is too short and people need to think outside of their own car.

On a side note, this is absolutely why people need to keep racing off the streets. Speeding is never safe. Someone can always get hurt. Be careful.

Great message Tag,
As always wear your seat belt, check your tires, and just because your speedometer says your car can go 160 doesn't mean you have to try it. |

I'll be sure to pass this story along. It's something everyone knows, but it's good to hear it every now and again.
A few years ago, my Uncle was killed by a drunk driver. It's not worth it, not one bit to make a stupid mistake to think you are capable of driving while intoxicated. It's one of the most selfish things one could ever do. Always wear your seatbelt, especially when there's others in the car. If you don't that just means you don't care about them. I thought I'd just mention this too; it's a good idea to label your important contacts in your cell phone as ICE (In Case of Emergency). You never know what could happen to you, and if you're alone, your phone could be the only source of contacting your loved ones if you get hurt.

Thanks. Always good to be reminded. Those of us who have been in a terrible accident & survived, know all too well what can happen. My accident was at 55 in a 50 mph zone. No, not that fast, but that LeBaron Coupe Turbo was totally destroyed. The first EMS to my car said "good girl, you were wearing your seatbelt & you are alive". Seeing the only recognizable part of my car, the back end, a passer-by went to where I worked & told them I was dead. It truly was that bad. My only significant injury was a broken knee.
Definately.....................slow down, drive safely & wear your seatbelts!!!!!!!!!

This made me think about the way I'm driving. Usually I blasted through the road without fear nor care of anything in front of me. Now I see that driving dangerously not only put me in danger but to others too. I need to change my way before something bad happens! Thanks for the story Tag!
