I don't think he's "like" 15. He's a Camaro owner (SRT4, that's a sedan, right?) who's been on the forum for a couple years and has noticed some trends here and in the Camaro community. This is a discussion board. He's allowed to discuss his experiences.

I'm big on research, so I was pouring over this board along with other sources for weeks prior to signing up. Overall, I think this forum is an incredible resource with a great sense of community, thanks to Tran, the mods, and most posters working to be civil. A mod mentioned the other day we have 30k members. We're our own city! In any group that large, you get a cross section of humanity with the requisite personality/ temperament clashes.

To the OP, I hope you can ignore the obnoxious, insecure few and just enjoy your car! I'm with you - love car shows, a beautiful car is a beautiful car. Mods, no mods - even if something isn't my style, I can appreciate the care and effort others put into it and the pride they feel in their cars. As the saying goes, guns don't kill people, people do: Camaros don't make people jerks, they started out that way. See post quoted above. No Camaro, yet bad attitude...

Along those lines, to the newbie I quoted, welcome. There are plenty here who don't have their Camaros yet, or who have other vehicles and just enjoy shooting the breeze about cars. I hope you take a little time to read the TOS, and some threads and posts here to get a feel for the forum. Perhaps then your second post won't be an insult to a fellow poster.

I think ALL "groups" have the same prevalent attitudes. Mustang owners have the same gripe about the Cobra owners. Corvette owners look down on Camaro owners. Camaro owners look down on such and such. And in every group there are the top dogs. So a Camaro owner might feel superior, but an L99 owner might feel even more superior, and then an LS3 owner will feel more superior, and the ZL1 owner will snub the LS3 owner, but then a Viper comes along and snubs the ZL1, and a Gallardo will say "is that a Dodge?"...and so on and so forth. And even if you have the top model car, after 2 years someone with a brand new one will say "oh you car is old, they have soo much more options now". It's just a part of life.

As far as the things Camaro owners do, I'm guilty. I park my car away from others because our cars are wide, and I can imagine how easy it would be for a car parked next to mine to hit it with the door. I hate when I go out of my way to park away from other cars and I return from shopping to find that somebody bypassed all the close parking spots to park their Caravan next to my car. I love seeing fellow Camaro owners on the road and I try as hard as I can to drive next to them. And sometimes I do feel a bit superior if theirs is a V6.

These are all basic human tendencies that we all have. Now I won't say I would go as far as the guys at the shows. But I would park next to them because I know we all would have the same mutual respect for each other. While some may take it to the next level and actually snub others, I would be open to anyone who wants to hang out and mingle or whatever. But I would certainly never consider selling my car because of such individuals.

Consider this...the Camaro is the newest kid out there right now. We've had a LONG hiatus and what seems like an even longer return waiting for the first showing of the prototype. And we're only 2 years old. We have the hottest looking car, one of the fastest cars, and we're all super excited. But it will slowly die down and people will return to normal soon enough. But for now just enjoy the ride and the excitement while we have the spotlight.

On another note it is highly recommended that members learn how to spell before posting on C5. The spell check police are chiming around in every thread looking for you in case you commit a "typo".

I think your post on here is directed at the wrong audience. This is a camaro car forum. Its not the guys who were acting elite at the car show.

Instead of snuffing at them, walk over to them and tell them how you feel. They may not even know they're doing that. If they're acting like that on purpose, then you can tell them off.

Direct your concerns at the actual people causing it. Don't generalize and assume all people with the same automobile act the same way.

Heck, some people act like jerks at a BBQ. Can't say everyone with a yellow grateful dead t-shirt acts that way. But you can say they all drink beer.

I have been doing car shows for 20+ yrs and have always owned Muscle , Sport or Hot Rods. One thing is for certain. Never ever have i seen such hatred and disdain for a vehicle in the show circuit as the 5th gen.

Part of it is utter dislike from many in the community. The other is the 5th gen attracted a TON of first time owners that have no understanding of the heritage and the sense of community that goes with it.

Half of the 5th gen crowd distance themselves while the other half get shunned because it's too heavy or it isn't REALLY an Fbody or whatever other excuse.

Also when it comes to shows the Camaro has DOMINATED over the last 3 yrs and in many cases for no good reason. I'm sorry i love Camaros but, that does not mean that every Camaro that shows up with a painted engine cover and nothing else deserves to WIN.. The ZL1 is a bad machine but i almost threw up 2 weeks ago when i saw a BONE STOCK just off the showroom floor ZL1 win a trophy up against cars with 30k in mods on them.

Sorry but, no modern stock car deserves to win at a classic , hotrod & muscle car show.

This is a huge reason people hate the 5th gen crowd and in turn they hate back.

it's not the "spell check police" it's more a matter of if you people to take your posts and opinions seriously, at least take the time to make sure you spell your words correctly, and at least attempt to use decent grammar. if what you have to say means so little to you that you can't take a few seconds to do that, why should it mean any more to anybody else?

you may not like the length of the sentences, but grammatically they're fine. though I suppose I could have used a semicolon in there instead of a coma.

Oh yea, they look for proper grammar, punctuation, proper use of the words, and paragraphing too.

Interesting replies to this thread, and I most say I am rather intrigued with the mostly constructive discussion going around.

just to clarify - I was not the one stating that this was causing me to contemplate selling my car. I love my camaro even more than my previous muscle cars and I will never part with it. This was another member's perspective that posted after me

No harm intended. I am simply pointing out that it's very easy to get carried away. Grammatically it isn't "fine". I see missing or jumbled words. No capitalization right off the bat and a giant run on sentence.

Not meaning to bash at all. Simply saying maybe make sure to check your own before criticizing other posters.
