Kinda what I said earlier, just with less hp. I totally agree. I could see the vette taking down the viper with those numbers but unless they shed weight on the ZL1 even 680hp isnt gonna make it a sure victory.

I don't believe that GM held back on HP because of the corvette. Hell they took the motor right out of the vette and dropped in the SS to begin with. GM has been putting vette motors in camaro's and trans ams for years ,and they were never faster. You know why? weight. The vette is much lighter so it will always be faster even with the same power. I believe cost is why the LS9 didn't make it into the ZL1.

What would the price be for the Zl1 with LS9 be? It has the LSA to keep price reasonable and the horsepower is more than most of us need..

another tidbit of note
ls9 10.5lbs of boost= 638hp lsa 9lbs of boost=580 5.4 9lbs boost=540 5.8 15lbs of boost= 662 so chevy vs ford at 9lbs a piece chevy wins by 40hp, I would contribute that more to the .8 diff in engine size than anything else though, not really more effeceint(sp?) or anything. So again I think it all comes down to upping the boost and how much can each motor take before its unsafe. The LSA is at a disadvantage here since GM saved money by not going all forged internal like they did w/ the LS9 and Ford did w/ the 5.4 and 5.8. At 15lbs of boost the LS9 would blow the 5.8 out of the water and the LSA should top it by 40-60hp, the LS9 can handle the boost no problem, not so sure on the LSA at least I don`t think I would want to run that much w/ out meth or something on an engine thats not completely forged. Another thing is I don`t know why they don`t stroke the new 5.0 motor and forge it. Its a much better motor than the old 4.6, 5.4, 5.8 architecture.

Fellas, do us all a favor and don't post in the new GT500 threads that pop up about this same subject. Then we can just delete them as they come, and not make this thread a mass of merges. Report them, and we will take care of it.

So i wonder if the 662 hp rating is at the 6250 rpm and is not including the over-rev feature of 7K rpm?
When Hot Rod magazine had the 13 Shelby on the dyno they saw 670hp past 6250 rpm and it was still climbing... Could this mean that with the over-rev feature we could see 700 hp?.. ![]() This thing is an absolute BEAST and is getting more interesting by the day... |

I have now seen it all, by the way. The VTEC argument is now being used by some Camaro fans. "It may not be as fast in the 1/4, but it's mad tyte in the twisties, yo!"

No matter what happens when these two beasts go head to head, at the end of the day both camps should be happy and proud of what their favorite car maker brought to the table... These are truly exciting times, and could quite possibly be the end of these high hp beasts... Way to go Chevy and Ford!!! Hats off to you guys for making this happen... |
