The Powell tragedy

Not the way I would like my town to get on the national map....

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/20...nd-neck-wounds

This happened about a mile and a half from my house.:( I'd say this act confirms his guilt in the disappearance of his wife, huh??

LBM, sorry to hear.

If you attend a vigil, please light a candle for those babies and their mom for me.

I heard about this yesterday day just before the game & started to cry, it is sad that he killed his own boys to get away with something.

Just...insane. Knew this guy was guilty from the start, and it's just sad to see this coward take the easy way out. And to take his kids with him. Just sick.

It just irritates the hell out of me every time this happens. In my time out here I've crossed paths (perhaps daily) with the likes of the Green River Killer, the DC Sniper, this loser, and God knows how many others. And yet I have so much unused ammunition. I wish they all had signs on them like that PSA that ran a year or so ago.
And yet another fine job by Washington DSHS. If they thought he was dangerous enough to warrant supervised visits, why were they so lax in the way they handled him and the children? (For those of you that don't live here, WADSHS has a long history of putting kids into harm's way, losing track of them, or just plain getting them killed. Then saying "oops! We won't fire anybody, we just need more money, that'll fix it. It won't happen again- we promise")
And then there's the guy's whackjob pedophile father that's sitting in jail under a 24 hour suicide watch. Really? Let him go! He's not worth the valuable cell space.
Hell, I've got plenty of rope if he needs to borrow some.

I thought that he might be close by ya LBM - just a horrible shame they let those kids anywhere near him.

It's just sick and nasty. One, that he killed his wife, and two, that he took his son's lives too. It's just sad.

You forgot to mention our local cop killer - Maurice Clemmons. Don't know what it is about Pierce County, WA - thinking it might be time to move. Then again, evil like this lurks everywhere, I'm sure...

Re: DSHS... I feel so sorry for that social worker, and am thankful Josh Powell didn't decide to kill her too. She had done the same thing every Sunday since last August - why should she have thought this time would be different???

There was a vigil last night, but I didn't know about it until the 11pm news covered it. One interesting quote from a man interviewed at the vigil, about the symbolism of the candles: "The candles represent the light guiding the boys to Heaven, and the flames burning their father in Hell"

Yeah, I thought about him when I was posting, but I couldn't (Didn't want to?) remember his name.

As for the social worker- I think she's extremely lucky. The way he planned things out, it's a good thing she didn't make it to the house before the kids. I think he planned to dispatch her first. The kids running to the house gave him an opportunity lock her out so he didn't have to deal with her, and she wouldn't have time to threaten his plan. Other than having to live with the memories, she got lucky.
The thing I want to know is if they suspected this guy of killing his wife- and they knew it, they just couldn't prove it to a jury-yet. Why would they think it was okay to send an unarmed woman alone into his house? It boggles the mind. I'm waiting to see if anything is made of that in the aftermath. Some people need to lose their government jobs over this one.

If I might ask, just exactly how did you know "he was guilty from the start", were you privy to the case? Hell, I'm lucky to know if my wife is clowning me or not. Larger issues are pretty much beyond my ken.

It always seemed to me that someone's guilt or innocence is a pretty weighty matter that those lesser involved folk need to be careful not to impugn. Juries, including Coroner's Juries, have important rôles to play in our democracy, eh?
'Course, what the hell do I know?:(

I firmly believe in our system of innocent until proven guilty, and agree with you that we couldn't possibly know he was guilty - until now. I do think this horrendous act was confirmation.
I find it interesting that the children's maternal grandparents waited until now to say they "knew" he would do something like this. If they knew he would, and had expressed it to the courts with any kind of basis other than "gut", then the visits would have been denied, not supervised...
I feel sorry for everyone involved. Even Josh Powell - I can't even imagine what kind of mental illness, deep guilt, or whatever it was that ran through his mind as he planned the death of his kids.
