Audi Q5, comments or reviews?

Ok so the gf has a 2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP that she got brand new. It now has 63K miles on it and has already had the transmission replaced and seems to be having lengthy issues with it. She's looking for a suitable replacement. She doesn't like the Nissan Murano or it's Infiniti sister vehicle. She hates Ford Escape and the Dodge simply doesn't have anything in their lineup she would be interested in. She doesn't like the Chevy Traverse. The BMW X5 is out of the question.

She doesn't want a car but rather a smaller SUV or crossover. So after searching and going over options she would be interested in, it appears her top choice is the Audi Q5 Premium Plus with the 2.0T 4 cylinder.

Does anyone have any reviews, experience, or comments they can share about the Audi?

Just bought one a few months back. 2012 2.0T

I would definitely consider a Cadillac SRX for the same money.

Here is what I like about the Audi

Fit, finish and materials

Excellent real world fuel economy - I can actually exceed the EPA highway when I drive, which is tough to do

Quiet

Handles like a car, not an SUV

Awesome base stereo

What it doesn't have that I wish it did.

Back up sensors if you don't get the $3,000 NAV

OnStar

Front seats are uncomfortable if you are not skinny.........and I'm not

Speedo goes to 180, sorry, but I'd prefer to have 30 mph not be a few ticks above 0

Has a noticable high pitched whine at idle and low speed. I took it in and apparently they all do it. I think it's the high pressure fuel pump for the DI engine.

You have to get the iphone package or the Plus package to get iphone connectivity and bluetooth. U.S. companies get lambasted for not having these in their cheapest vehicles.

Overall it's a really nice car. A lot of nice appointments and touches everywhere. For example the rear seat fold lever in the back so you can fold the seats when loading. The glovebox is cooled in the area where you would put your iphone. I had one rattle in the door, easily fixed by the dealer. Speaking of which, service has been fantastic so far............at least for the one item.

She's definitely going to get the NAV system because she wants the back up camera and the navigation.

She's also looking into the Cadillac as well but we will be checking out the Audi later this week

If you're looking for something that's more reliable, I would not be looking anywhere near a VW or Audi.

Yeah, this was going to be my point. What about a Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain? Or...the new Honda CR-V is kinda nice too.

We had a Q5 for a short time and it was nice. It was very comfortable and a nice, smooth ride. Felt very solid. The blindspots were too much for my Mom, but she is a very small person. She made the switch to the GLK350 and is much happier with it. Have you looked at the Evoque or the GLK?

We considered both of those before we bought the Q5. The Q5 is an Cadillac SRX competitor, not a Chevy/GMC competitor. Although both are truly outstanding vehicles, neither holds a candle for fit, finish and materials in the Audi. The Chevy equivalent would be the VW not the Audi.

The deal for us was the Equinox had only a few hundred on the hood and the Audi had a grand off even though they are selling well too. Plus the Audi dealer offered us over $2,000 more for our trade. It was hard to pass up.

You're right; I guessI only mentioned those because they're more similar to the Torrent that she has; just improved models. But Cadillac/Audi is definitely a step up as far as material quality.

The Torrent is the Equinox, just with the Pontiac label instead of Chevy. I've already explained it to her that if she goes with the Cadillac, she'll technically have the possibility of the same issues she has with her Torrent because the Cadillac is essentially the same thing as the Torrent/Equinox but more "luxuried."

We spoke about the Mercedes, but she hasn't made a choice on whether or not she wants to look into one. There is still the possibility.

My wife has a 2012 Q5. The only mark against it, and it was enough for her to say she wouldn't have bought it if she'd have known, is the wipers aren't worth a shit if its snowing hard. The snow freezes on them rather quickly. On her 15 min drive to work, she got out twice to clean them off and they needed cleaning again when she got to work. I searched online and found a HUGE number of complaints about Audi wipers. She traded in her Santa Fe and it had heater lines on the windshield where the blades sat so that was never an issue. Everything else she loves about the vehicle. She drove a Cadillac SRX, which she liked, but she likes her Q5 better. And as far as comparing an Equinox to a Q5, come on.....

Torrent hasn't been alive for a couple years, the Cadillac is a whole different car than the old Torrent, Equinox and Terrain are also completely different.
