Actually, it's not really the oil you have, its the infrastructure you have for the oil business. Texas has much more gas than liquid oil at this point but the sheer number of refineries and chemical plants in the Lone Star State is what makes you really valuable.

And that is the reason for my "see how fast you get bitchslapped back into the union" comment. If Texas even made a semi-serious attempt to secede by force (although what force would be used I don't know) you would see serious military force presented and then everyone and their mother who participated would be charged with treason.
