Spider-man's webshooters

As much as I believe so many TECHNOLOGICAL advances are possible and exist at this very moment......

I stay up late at night sometimes, wondering how something that looks as small as a wrist-watch.....can shoot a STRING.....that is as strong as a steel cable....and end of the string is adhesive......and it bonds instantly upon impact.....but it won't bond to your hand if you grab the string to swing on it.

And the string that shoots out might be 20 feet long.

Thinking about HOW THIS MIGHT WORK enables me to fall asleep at night as I ponder any kind of hint or suggestion that maybe something like this would work.

I suppose there was no way around this topic in the movie. That is the original story so they can't really change it.

Although the new spider-man movie is not in theaters until July of 2012.....I can't wait to hear them EXPLAIN how this teenager built this little device.

(shouldn't the device have some kind of compressed-air or something to create a projectile of sticky substance). (Perhaps Nano-Technology?)

Perhaps the spider-bite venom unlocked something in his MIND and EXPLAINED to him something he didn't know before??

I shall suspend all dis-belief when i see the movie of course.

I think thats kinda how its supposed to work, based on what I remember from the cartoon from the 90's at least. He makes little 'web cartridges' that he inserts into his shooters, which I would assume contain both the web and the propellant.

Spiderman's Web-Shooters

He's always had web-shooters in the comics and cartoon. I'm glad they're going back to this method for the new movie.

I have always thought about it. I really like first version of the Spider Man movies, I think that the radioactive spider bite would give a person the ability to shoot webs without shooters, (ya, I know completely against the comics) as well as climb walls. I honestly think that it can be done, just the matter of how to do it is the biggest question. Spider-Man has always been something that I have thought about, such as "would a genetically enhanced spider bite kill you, or would it possibly do something to your DNA and recode it in a way spiders have it?" I might be thinking way out of reality, but it's always fun.

the stupid part was they didn't have him invent the shooters in the movies because they said 'it's not realistic that a high school student could invent them"
as if the rest of the story is 'realistic'

As how one could invent something like that is one thing, but the fact that it's already happening in a smaller scale is reality. Ask any web-producing spider. They can walk on their own webs without being entangled in it, yet when building them, they simply tap their tail to a connecting point and it sticks like glue. If you could scale up the web to man-sized, although it's protein-based, it would be stronger than a steel cable.

Just imagine a teenager having the ability to shoot a string of protein 20 feet and having it stick on a wall....probably not so far-fetched.

But in all seriousness, the key difference being that most spiders aren't shooting their web, they're laying it out by hand. So the web is almost being pulled off a proverbial spool.

And much like trying to waste TP by feeding it to the turlet, it can be difficult to get stuff spooled off fast enough.

Plus this opens up another opportunity - MERCHANDISING!

problem with it and even in starwars, is people being able to hold their own body weight and anothers person holding onto something smaller then a thread of yarn.

don't care how strong your hand is, its not designed to hold something that small, it will just slip right through.
