I don't expect it to go mainstream, it's priced too high to do so. It will attract a lot of buyers who want something smaller/more fuel efficient but don't want to give up the luxury of their larger cars.

Think of it as the next step up from a Cruze. Cruze is already fairly impressive and luxurious, Verano adds some power and even more luxury.

Agreed. However I don't ever see a return to the idea of a stripped-down, fuel economy at-all-costs model. Honda and Nissan are still trying to sell models like that and it isn't working out too well for them.
