is the LS3 engine considered to be a LSx engine?

simple question i am confused.

i have been on other forums and they sometime say "LSx swap" and mostly its a LS1.

it is proper to call the LS family "LSx"? i know GM has a crate engine called LSX. thats why i sometimes just say LS engines.

I'd say that the LS3 is an LSx, but its not an LSX. Since this minor little difference can be very confusing ... I just call them Gen IV small blocks, since not all such engines have an LS designation (L99, L76, etc), and there are some Gen III's that have an LSx name (LS1, LS6)

The LSX is a crate engine from GM.

An LSx is any engine from the GM LS family, and sometimes any Gen III/IV GM V8. The lower case "x" is being used as a variable. It could be 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, etc

There is a difference in meaning between an LSX and an LSx. Uppercase is for the blocks and engines that you get from GMPP, which are essentially iron block LS engines. Lowercase signifies that it is a generic LS series engine.

In effect, every LSX is an LSx. But not every LSx is an LSX

Different engines. Theres an LSx 376 thats simillar to the LS3, but there two different engines.

One of the difference is the Block and the Heads. (I think not a 100% on that)

LS based engines from 1997-2004 are GenIII and 2005 and up are GenIV. The LSX is a GM Performance Products block.
