The Wife Wants a Cruze

Her tired 2006 Jetta Diesel is on its last legs and she thinks she wants a Cruze ECO with an auto. What say ye drivers of serious cars? Is the 42mpg Cruze ECO ready for my wife to put on a couple of hundred thousand highway miles?

If that's what she wants, then that's what she should get. Always try to make the wife happy.

I considered the Cruze as my daily driver. I ended up with something else, but it's not a bad little car...has some good bells & whistles.

42 MPG is only with the 5 speed. Auto gets 36. Still great mileage.

I have been looking to get one when my Pontiac is done. They are nice I drove my buddy's.

Cruze is a decent car. Relatives just bought one. Keep in mind a Camaro LS or 1LT can be had for almost the same price, but if she would rather have the Cruze she should get one.

My wife has a Cruze Eco in the manual transmission and it won't get close to 42 mpg on the Hwy. She and I both really like cars features and comfort but I'm very disappointed in th gas mileage. We have made several Hwy trips and it average between 30 and 32 mpg Hwy. Thats terrible as far as I'm concerned. The Saturn we traded in was a 2000 model with over 200,000 miles and it was still getting 36 mpg Hwy miles. She has 15,000 on the Cruze so I feel like that is enough to make a fair assessment. How many miles do you have on the Jetta TDI and what kind of mpg you getting? We actually drove one and considered buying one before we bought the Cruze. The Cruze had a few more bells and whistles so we bought it. I have been wondering if we made a mistake. For the record, I would not buy another Cruze due to the poor MPG.

What speed are you driving at? Something may be wrong with the car if you are only getting 30mpg on the highway.

There have been multiple reports that the manual ECO can get 50+ mpg if you drive around 50mph or slower. If you're driving 80 or something that might be the issue.

I test drove an Eco for probably 10 miles around town and got 30mpg in stop and go.

My sister has an Eco with the automatic. She really likes it so far. It's the best Cruze to buy IMO because the wheels are very nice plus the extra MPG. I guess I would pick the LTZ over it, but not for the price.

I have a 2012 Crude with an automatic and turbo engine.
Have about 1500 miles on this daily driver. So far, average
mileage has a been 34-35a mpg. Fairly peppy as well..

They last two trips we took were all Hwy miles with interstate speed of 70 mph and about 60 miles of 55 mph. I took it back to the dealer and explained the situation. They said they couldn't find anything wrong. They also told me hey 32 mpg is not that bad. I said no it's not, unless it supposed to get 10 mpg better. Thats a 25% reduction to me thats unacceptable. On the exact same trip in our Camaro SS with 8 cylinders and over 400HP we got 26 mpg only 4 mpg less than the Cruze Eco.
