It's definitely something to do with propane... usually backfires don't last that long.

If you watch this video (never mind the comments, they're in Dutch) at around 5:00 you'll see me in the Tuscan, spitting out backfire flames...

if you watch the video completely: have fun the guys in the BMW are quite hilarious.

At around 4:20 I missed third gear, few days later the gearbox broke down... even then the guy is giving some comments...

Anyway, point is: the blue flames are just way too long to be backfires...

Bingo! add to it a rich fuel mixture and you're ready to toast marshmallows.

Well as far as the video goes, all stock F430s do that at some point. Factory engine mapping means timing is race car aggressive on full throttle. Couple that with no cats and a free flow exhaust, and you'll do it almost every time you are on the throttle heavy.

I'm pretty sure it's propane yes, the flames I used to have on my old Lotus, and the ones you've seen on my Tuscan in the vid, are far more irregular. They just look too "nice" to be unburnt fuel.

IIRC those "flamethrowers" are somehow hooked up to the accelerator.

Found some time to upload a video of my old Elise...

It's a bit noisy sometimes, so don't turn the sound up too much

I've seen STIs do this, given the A/F ratios I've observed during acceleration (with my real-time data aquisition) and that you're dumping a TON of fuel down there to keep everything cool in addition to what's necessary for combustion, there's definitely a good deal of unburned fuel comming out, and I'm sure that's what I've seen when I've seen the STIs do this, not some fancy "afterburner" setup.

Natural Blue Fire
The easiest way to make blue fire is to burn a chemical that naturally produces a blue flame. Most types of alcohol burn as blue fire, such as ethanol, methanol, and isopropyl alcohol. Natural gas also burns with a blue flame.
•ethanol (e.g., rum, vodka)

•methanol (wood alcohol, Heet fuel treatment)

•isoproyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)

•natural gas
Easy Method of Making Blue Fire
Several metal salts burn with a blue flame, such as certain copper, arsenic, and lead compounds. Antimony and lead are toxic, but you can use copper(I) chloride to produce blue fire.
1.Add a small amount of water to copper(I) chloride to dissolve the salt. If you cannot find copper(I) chloride, it is possible to make this chemical yourself. Copper(II) chloride is more widely available, but it will burn with a blue-green flame.

2.Soak a flammable material with the copper chloride solution. Good choices include sawdust or pinecones.

3.Allow the material to dry. When you light it or add it to a normal fire you will get blue fire.
